paint protection polises are a money making gimmick. the profit is huge and the salesmen pocket it all. dont get it! we use a product called supaguard which is the same type of stuff. what i would recommend is a product called pro shine. its a spray on wipe off formula and works a treat. its cheap and is intended to be used by the owner not a professional. if you really want a paint protection polish be cheeky and ask a valetor to do it for you on a weekend out of hours. save yourself a fortune.

Didn't really want to revive an old thread but didn't see the need for a new one. I need to make the decision before middayish tomorrow so I can let my dealer know on this. Am thinking that I won't be going for it especially at the quoted price of £299 and after the "horror" stories. What would people recommend and where can I get whatever from so that I can just do this myself next weekend?DSport HDi 110 in Belle Ile Blue/Onyx Black

paint protection is a very misguided subject.
Tests have showed that most of them don't actually last very long at all, never mind the 3 years+ they are guarenteed to last for.
The worst thing is that I have heard a few dealerships just putting the aftercare kit in the car and then giving the quick polish to look nice then once the car is out then its not their problem.
I have worked with Supaguard for many years, the only POLYMER based Manufacturer recomended protection system on the market.
Most of the others are waterbased and wear off very quickly.
Supaguard has a bad name because Valeters have not treated the car paintwork properly and this makes the stuff look crap ! hence getting a bad name.
Done properly though it works and over three years you can tell what has been treated and what hasnt.
It has been proven that the stuff has lasted up to 5 years but can only be guarenteed for 3 at the moment.
It does get expensive but dealers will discount the package if you ask !!!
Also just because you get it cheap off the net dosent mean your car has full protection, anything on the likes of ebay will be most light ly to be stolenGreen Vehicle Solutions

It's got me wondering what difference it can really make. Surly not every car on the road has been protected, and we know car paint has got miles better of the last 20 years, most cars still look fine minus car park bumps etc. This Supaguard does sound good though, will chase it up and see what quotes I can get then.DSport HDi 110 in Belle Ile Blue/Onyx Black

Personally (seeing as I've never paid for any paint protection) I don't know if I would bother, you'd be looking at the thick end of £250 to get it done and I think that could pay for a local professional valeter to put some decent quality products on it.
£250 buys you a lot of good quality kit providing you have the time to keep up the maintenance yourself.

The dealer did suggest the Guard-X stuff for my DS3 R when they get it delivered to them but now hearing all the horror storys of some dearlers may not even be applying it on and charging you, am going to go with Auto Glym an do it myself. I used their products years ago an was very happy with it.Last edited by alexmj1; 22-05-2011, 15:45.

I applied GardX to my dsport, and it did the job. A couple of coats of Autoglym resin polish i'm sure would have been just as good. The two stage kits you can pickup for a few pounds on Ebay, I bought a couple of kits for a £5 at a car boot sale, the upholstery aerosol spray again got on Ebay for 99p, one can goes along way, Do the job yourself for peanuts, and put your own sticker in the window, satisfaction assured!!!!!!

Hi,
I would never recommend these 'protection' products.
One of my hobbies is car detailing, and all being equal once I've got my DS3, if people are interested I'm talking to one of the mods about doing a 'detailing' meet at a place in the midlands. Cars can look fantastic and better than showroom if looked after properly (which often involves correcting problems put on long before you receive the new car). However I appreciate this isn't everyones cup of tea, but I find it a pleasing pastime. Sponges and leathers are the enemy of your paintwork, both can inflict swirl marks (tiny scratches) that rob your car of depth of shine and reflection. If the subject interests you suggest you take a look on detailingworld.co.uk - just start by looking at the wash technique guides...I'm the same name on that sight....some of the cars in the showroom will show you what can be done....
More than happy to help anyone subject to time, etc. There's nothing like a machine polished car finished with the right wax...
Right, apologies, off my soap box  pun intended!

i bought superguard, got a little off but it was still expensive. i know this makes me a muppet but it was the first car ive ever bought and wanted to do it right (for what i knew at the time). Bought into the whole deal from the dealer but ive learned a lot from this first car purchasing experience.
it does look good after a wash but i was expecting all the dried on stuff to come off easily like the bugs and dirt, but to be fair its not different to washing the old car i used to have which had no protection whatsoever. think i was so smitten with the car i felt compelled to have it done. i have faith in my dealer as many have used them so im guessing they have done it lol!
