Thanks everyone for the comments. I've just ordered loads of stuff from Autobrite to hopefully keep it the same state. I get the feeling this is going to become a bit of an obsession...

LOL Chiefnerd! My neighbours do well out of my enthusiasm! Test cars about galore! But full scale enhancement details are something a bit different!

        Regards,
        Clive.

LOL Tez, an enhancement detail on a DS3 takes me about 7-9 hours! (nearly always towards the nine hour mark!)

            Regards,
            Clive.

                Sick with jealousy!
It's not lazyness honestly - with my disability there's no way I can work on a car for 9 hours!!!
Oh yeah - lack of skill as well

Hi Steve, a great question, but not a 'quick' answer - take a look on detailingworld.co.uk there's loads of guides on there - (I'm the same username on there). Most importantly DONT use a sponge or a chamois leather, use a two bucket method wash (one wash, one rinse), plush drying towels....
In essence sponges and leathers cause swirl marks on cars - the tiny scratches you typically see in bright sunshine - you might think well I can't see them but in essence they rob your car of gloss and depth of reflection.

I also help with a 'back to basics' course at Autobrite which gives an introduction to correct wash technique and general good cleaning practice!

                  Regards,
                  Clive.

I think you'll have to sign up to Detailing World, but info is here: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=284278

Thanks BeefMasta i'm definately interested in doing the course but will have to keep my fingers crossed that it's run again next year. I am currently off work with a bad back so aint up to 6 hours of standing let alone polishing at the moment
also it may be a stupid question but on the course do you do all the training and cleaning on your own car ? hopefully you do as then at least you can curtain twitch and admire all your hard work lol

As I understand it, the Back to Basics course is for a small group and as I understand it they choose a car and work on that.

If you wanted to do the training on your own car on a one-to-one basis, you'd be better off sending CliveP a PM about doing an enhancement detail. It's more expensive than the course but you learn the same stuff and your car ends up looking amazing. I definitely recommend it, although it depends on how addicted you think you'll become

nice thanks for the suggestion. So long as CliveP is accommodating it means i can get my back sorted first then have a go once i'm all healed up as i'm waiting for another operation which will hopefully be the last then get fighting fit and get sorted out with this detailing stuff lol

Yeah, Clive is awesome, very knowledgeable and all round nice guy. Make sure he takes you to the epic sandwich shop near his.

Thanks Patrick, what a nice comment my friend! And thanks for putting up the link to the course!

Steve, apologies for not putting up the link, I didn't want to be presumtuous! Hope you get your back all sorted, sounds painful, best of luck with it.

As Patrick has said, we tend to take one car and go through all the basics - we've only added the introduction to machine polishing recently, as we had a lot of calls for it, but it is just a quick overview as part of the course.
We intend running the courses next year, we concentrate on small groups only and feedback has always been good - there's also a link within the back to basics post on DW with pictures of previous courses. I really enjoy delivering the courses, they are always great fun and people seem to get a lot from them.
And, of course, no problem, once your back is sorted if you want your car machine enhancing let me know.

                                Regards,
                                Clive.
