Cheers Clive- can understand that explanation
And is there a quick and simple way to understand the "2 bucket method" thats referred to a lot
Or is it a thread that was missed when I searched?

Ok I have two buckets which I use to clean and a wool mitt (as recommended here) but what do you all use to dry your cars and clear the water if not a chamois ?

      Cheers

A nice soft deep pile microfiber towel. Easy on the paint and soak up a lot of water.

          Hi All,

Yes drying should be done with a nice soft plush towel, either by 'patting' the surface or you can wipe if you're certain that the surface is spotlessly clean...

          Chris - 2 Bucket Method:

          Bucket 1 - Wash solution
Bucket 2 - Rinse solution (i.e. plain water).

          Method (very simplistically):
          - Dip mitt in wash solution, wash a section or, if sooner, until the mitt shows trapped dirt
          - Go to 'rinse' bucket, dunk mitt to rinse dirt from it, wring 'clean' mitt out with hands, making sure excess water is rung out when lifting finally from rinse bucket (this is so the mitt isn't soaking when it returns to Wash solution bucket, otherwise it won't pick up fresh wash solution).
          - Return Mitt to Wash Solution to pick up fresh wash solution.....

Then repeat above until car washed - from from top of car 'down' - if car is particularly dirty, only wash to waist height all around the car, then return for lower panels after all 'top' half completed.

Note: don't put mitt all the way to the base of bucket (ideally both buckets contain a 'grit guard' at base of bucket so you don't go to base of bucket and pick up any grit that has fallen to base). The logic is any grit falls to the base of the bucket, so you don't want to pick up that grit on your mitt.

          Regards,
          Clive.

Right- I can see why this is an art form
Me just wash all over with the soapy water, then sling a few buckets over (Or hose) and then dry off with shammy usually

Then polish with waterless cleaner which brings it up sparkly

And during that time listen to footie (Usually Saturday pm) on my locally bought tranny
Cos the car radio switches itself off after 30 mins:mad:

Oh, and most importantly, make sure the fridge is full of cider, and make plenty of visits to it LOL:cool:

You know that sounds wrong don't you ? I tend to the same (not with a tranny), I like listening to Five Live in the summer getting the footy commentary whilst the car is cleaned...
