  • Polish car wash?!

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but rather than spending hours cleaning your car, why not just take it to the polish car wash?

I understand that people get a certain satisfaction out of it, but don't the polish car wash places do a good job?

I only ask because I hand cleaned my DSport last week & it's somehow got filthy just sat outside all week so am going to need to do it again this weekend!

On what basis? I'm asking a genuine question, or is that not allowed?

If the Polish car wash does a good enough job for you then feel free to use them.

I personally wouldn't let anyone touch my car unless I'd seen their previous results on other peoples cars and was happy with it.

I appreciate that people like to take their time over cleaning their car & it's something they enjoy, that's cool. I know that a cash wash can't come close to doing as good a job as spending hours on it.

I guess what I was trying to say is, is there any reason not to use them? I didnt know if there was any horror stories!

A more balanced reply (for a change from me) ......

I'm no detailer and don't spend hours cleaning my car but would not use a Polish wash as I'm low level fussy.

My neighbour does use a local one and has done for a couple of years and the job they do is fine. His body work is fine, isn't scratched to hell and his interior is constantly cleaner than mine courtesy of the car wsh. Some may be worse than others, but some people do find them perfectly adequate.

I love to see a detailed car and if you have that amount of time for that level of cleaning that's great. Don't be to hard on us lowly normo's who just clean our cars. 😀

Thanks for that! I took my old Fiesta to a local one & was really happy with the results so might give them another go with my DSport.

Like you say, not everyone has the time to spend hours cleaning their car!

                      Ultimately it's what you're happy with isn't it ?

Like ZACK and Beefy I wouldn't trust my all black DS3 to them, if they messed it up I'm screwed and I would rather look after it myself. My fiancée uses the local one from time to time on her old Corsa, she's happy enough !

Lol you only have to drive past some of them and the setup looks dodgey.

Suppose some of them are ok, I'd watch them do someone else's car 1st though - watch for the dangly zips hanging off their Fila / Kappa jackets rubbing against paintwork.

There's a Slovakian guy in Nuneaton I was speaking to a few months back who won the lottery in his country and came over here and set up 15 of those washes all over the country. All of his operatives at each site undertook an AutoGlym Valeting course and they only use a combination of AutoGlym and Auto Finesse products - now those I'd recommend ! Think it was £8/£10 for a basic wash which is a bit more than most ( circa £5 ) but the job he did on my company car was amazing. Unfortunately I've never been able to find another one

Why not do what a friend of mine does?

He bought a car wash brush and goes along to his local jet washer, soaps the car with the lance and then uses his own brush. That way he knows what the brush was doing last, many a time I've seen the last person using the brush to scrub their alloy wheels! Talking of wheels he also has a little brush and some cleaner in the boot so he can do that job too.

This method works fine for him as he too doesn't really do the whole detail thing but likes a clean car.
