I thought a 'Sticky' is something that would make you grab your cleaner even faster!

No a 'Sticky' is a forum term for a thread that is always show at the top of the list, take a look at the Technical thread to see what I mean.

Terrific guide, i feel bad for occasionaly using a dry cleaner now, the greased lightning showroom shine! Your advice came handy yesterday as the car was covered in fine sand, so i jetwashed and used a pre wash shampoo, would usually just throw water and have at it with a sponge :o

Can anyone recommend a product for removing splattered stuck on bugs and tar etc ?

Any citrus based pre rinse cleaner is ideal for bugs. Also good is Demon Rapid Dirt Shifter (Wilkinsons or Morrisons is cheapest). Failing that pre soak clean microfibre cloths in a bucket of hot soapy (shampoo) water, take from bucket and rest cloths onto the bugged area. Leave for about 5 minutes then bugs should just wipe or pressure wash off.
For the tar, any decent maked specific tar removers such as Auto Finesse Oblitarate or AutoSmart Tardis will do the job. Failing that, try WD40.

Got a quick (probably stupid) question for you RR, since this thread has been bumped. I used the Valet Pro citrus pre wash in a garden sprayer like you suggested, but I was unsure if it was supposed to create a foam at all? I know you said it creates less mess than snow foaming so I wasn't expecting anything like that, but there was none at all.

No foam is generated by the VP from the pressure sprayer so you were doing it correctly my friend. Hope it shifted the dirt for you

No worries pal. The pre-rinse is exactly as the name describes. Applied onto dry paintwork, it gets to work tackling the dirt whilst you leave it to dwell. I normally apply, leave to dwell, clean the tyres and wheels, apply to paintwork again, leave to dwell then pressure wash off.

Your paint at this stage should be almost clean BEFORE you have even touched it with your wash mitt.

Ordered the valet pro citrus pre wash and a pressure sprayer to test out, hopefully should be good!

I have abused my paintwork for too long now using 1 bucket of shampoo and a sponge, time to start looking after it.

I have never done any of this stuff though, i am gonna give detailing my first ever blast very soon, gonna wash correctly, clay bar, Polish and wax..

I have got some AG super resin polish laying around at home which i will use, is it good? Im also gonna order the dodojuice supernatural hybrid wax.. just stuck on what clay bar, can anyone recommend a decent clay bar and lubricant for a total noob?

The AG SRP is a great polish for filling in and masking swirls. If it has been lying around for a while, make sure you wake it up with a good shake before use. The SNH is a great LSP. It's a hybrid of a wax and a sealant and gives a fantastic look to the finished car. Just make sure you use separate fresh, clean detagged mf cloths for buffing off the SRP and the SNH.

Don't buy a clay bar. Buy a clay mitt from Halfords. Much easier and lasts longer.
