I wash whenever work allows. Working 12 hours a day makes it slightly hard, and days off I like to sleep Gone a bit slack on the cleaning lately as Im getting a new car, but soon as new car arrives, will be washing as much as possible again.2011 61 Plate, All Black DSport 150 THP, MyWay City Signature (SOLD)

Best and first purchase should be a lambswool wash mitt. Mine is a Merino wool one and minimises swirls. Do NOT use a sponge under any circumstances.
Only dry the car with a specific mf drying towel. Use this by patting the towel on the bodywork, do not rub. Mine is a Wooly Mammoth, see my video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZrG...e_gdata_player
Do NOT use a chamois or drying blade.
Microfibres should be the softest you can afford. I buy mine, Kirkland, in packs of 36 from Costco for Ł12.
Below is an enhancement I do for clients and the products used:
Valet Pro Citrus pre rinse using a garden pump 2L pressure sprayer (Ł3.25 in Asdas)
Wheel-arches cleaned with Bilt Hamber SurfexHD and stiff brush (a loo brush is fine)
Pressure washed off (Get a Nilfisk not a Karcher)
Badges and gaps cleaned with SurfexHD and detailers brush
Wheels cleaned and fall out removed using IronX and Wheel Woolies.
Car and wheels pressure washed off
Wash car using Farecla G3 detox shampoo with Carpro Merino wool mitt in 2 buckets with grit guards
Rinsed
Clayed with Farecla G3 Detox Clay Mitt and shampoo as a lube. See my video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Vu2...e_gdata_player
Paint work de-tarred with Autosmart Tardis
Paint work fall out removed with Carpro Iron X
Rinsed
Wheels cleaned again with foaming sprayhead and AutoFinesse Imperial wheel cleaner, Wheel Woolies and detailers brush
Tyres cleaned with Bilt Hamber Surfex HD and stiff brush
Washed again using Farecla G3 detox shampoo with Carpro Merino wool mitt in 2 buckets with grit guards
Rinsed
Pat dry with Chemical Guys Wooly Mammoth drying towel
Machine polish using Dodo medium pad and Scholl A15 compound to tackle any swirls and light scratches
Dodo heavy cut pad with Scholl S3 Gold Edition if needed
Wipedown with Carpro Eraser using Kirkland microfibre cloth
Machine polish using finishing pad and Meguiars 205 finishing polish
Buffed off with Kirkland microfibre cloth
Clients wax/sealant of choice applied (I am currently experiencing excellent results with Sonax Extreme Protect and Shine Hybrid NPT, a non wax sealant)
Buffed off with Kirkland microfibre cloth
Tyres dressed with 2 coats of Autosmart Highstyle
Wheels sealed with Planet Polish Wheel Seal and Shine
Plastics protected with Autosmart Highstyle
Exhaust tip/s cleaned with fine grade wire wool and Duzzit metal cleaner and polish (Ł1 from The Range)
All paintwork and glass then has an application of Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer applied.
Excellent beading on windscreen as seen here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agkB...e_gdata_player
This is the finish and beading effects of the BSD after being applied on top of the NPT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoDs...e_gdata_player
As you can see, this enhancement uses a variety of both expensive and inexpensive products
As a starter kit, I would recommend
Nilfisk jetwash ( http://www.cleanstore.co.uk/products...ct.asp?ID=7506 )
2 buckets with grit guards ( http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washin.../prod_393.html)
Lambswool wash mitt ( http://www.sheepskinshop.co.uk/produ...20Wash%20Mitts)
Garden Pressure Sprayer ( http://www.wilko.com/hose-pipes-spri...sure%20sprayer)
Valetpro Citrus pre-wash ( http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valeti.../prod_728.html)
Wax free shampoo such as Muc Off Uber Shampoo ( http://www.screwfix.com/p/muc-off-be...equestid=66580)
Drying towel ( http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/microf...prod_1003.html)
Plush microfibre cloths ( http://www.costco.co.uk/view/product...s_8.6.2/713160) instore these are just Ł12 incl VAT
Sonax BSD ( http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detail...prod_1178.html)
Wheel Woolies ( http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels...prod_1037.html)
Envy/Valetpro detailing brushes ( http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels.../prod_973.html)
If you buy anything from cleanyourcar then add DW05 as a discount code and also if you spend over Ł100 and it's free delivery. Tim is a good guy there.
Phew, hope this helps you pal

Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer is that good. One mf to apply and a plush one to buff off. Job done. I bought the 750ml bottle and after one application went and immediately bought the 5L bottle.DS3 1.6THP DSport with a few bits added.....nickname BB

Gaz, use the CG before the LSP. (On the list it would replace the machine polishing stage)

I've set a date to clean my car, Sunday 11th May. Il allow it an hour. However, thinking Maintenance of Morale and Economy of Effort, what's my best option.
Clean car myself - 60 Mins
OR
Drive to local quality car cleaner - 10 Mins
Walk to Café - 5 mins
Drink coffee and eat toast overlooking the Thames - 30 mins
Walk back to car cleaner - 5 mins
Drive home - 10 mins - 10 mins
Total 60 mins

If I'm happy with their work this could become a habit. Cost isn't really an issue as I only clean my car every thousand miles or so; worth a few quid to avoid having to do any work myself!
