  • The DS3 Driving Instructor Thread

As there's quite a few driving instructors on here I thought I'd start a new thread for DS3 driving School related matters. Hope that's ok with the mods!
Hopefully it will be a good resource for other instructors as well as giving info to instructors who may be thinking of getting a DS3.

Having had my DS3 for the total of a whole month (!) here are my thoughts so far...

    Generally very pleased.
Lack of storage space and cup holding space compared with my old C2 is a pain. Also the positioning of the 12v power isn't ideal as it's on the drivers side of the handbrake, so trying to have phone or tablet plugged in to charge is less than ideal.
Fuel consumption at 53mpg for driving lesson use is a little disappointing compared to the 54-56mpg I got with the C2
One month in and the alloys have not yet been scraped!

    Pupils like it
Uses rod operated he-man dual controls - the fitters said He-Man cables not available for this model.
I had to hire a bog standard Corsa dual controlled car a few months ago and there is no comparison, this is miles better for lessons.

Like most modern cars, all round visibility is not great, but I can live with it.
Good adjustability for all sized pupils...
Using a standard roof sign atm but will be getting an aero style one soon. A friend with a DS3 says it has improved her fuel consumption and it looks a bit nicer too.

Trouble is I use the slot above. It takes my sunglasses case (which I like to have accessible from both drivers and passenger side) and which I then turn at 90 degrees to balance my tablet on when showing pupils diagrams etc

I do agree about the leg space - from a passenger perspective, being 6 ft means my legs have a slight bend in them - ALL DAY!!! However driving is different - loads of room - could use a lumbar support - instead just stick my diary in the small of my back!!

I've got the same cup holder as swiftpass - works great as its at an angle so as to not disturb the shelf above!!

As for mpg - when. I use my top box - I get about 51-53 - however too it off recently and stuck L plates on and it increased to around 58mpg....and thats with the learners revving as they do, manoeuvres and stop starting all day long.

I love it - just renewing and getting my next one on the 1st September....

Up to 55mpg on lessons over the last 7 days. Not needed aircon this week so that may account for the improvement.

Yep - no negative comments and quite a few positive comments.

Personally I'm finding it annoying not being able to see the speedo. Am using a HUD app on my phone to help but where to put the phone is an additional problem!

Hmmmm - did you get it on the Driving Instructor scheme? If so, they provide the duals and a he-man HUD with the package....

have you sent one back off the Driving Instructor scheme yet? Just wondering if I can keep the duals and the heads up - maybe to sell on as my new car comes with them as well. Manheim are collecting the car after my new one comes. It would be interesting to see what it brings at auction.....
