Don't confuse GAP with VRI guys

GAP is shortfall for Finance and VRI is shortfall on invoice price, the clue is in the name. Some companies do muddle the names so please double check that your are getting the right cover.

    Citroen refers to the twp prodducts as;

GAP - Guarantee Asset Protection (finance shortfall protection)
VRI - Vehicle Replacement Insurance (Invoice price protection)

Right okay.... Had a little wee chat with Colin Start of Citroen to see if we can finally sort out this mess of Service Plans! Now I will try to relay on what he told me below, but as ever please ask!

The way the Service works is that customers can claim any number of scheduled services or annual services as required as long as required they don't breach the overall time or mileage limit. The important thing to note is that when a scheduled service or annual service is done the service counter is reset, the other thing is that replacement parts are not included within the plan, this will be charged for. I did ask about customers who cover more than 2,500 miles with a 110 HDi DSport wherever they can use the Service Plan as this normally falls under Arduous Service Conditions, the response I got was that a customer could still claim for the scheduled services up to they mileage limit. I will admit that Colin Start did sound unsure about this point so I would recommend that any customer who is doing that kind of mileage to check with their serving dealer. One last thing is that any modifications to a DS3 will exempt it from the Service Plan as stated in the term and conditions on the yellow paper contract.

So for a couple of examples for help, to remind everybody the service routine for 110 and 90 HDi diesels is 12,500 miles or two years and for petrol 150 THP and 120 VTi20,000 miles or two years

Customer 1 has a diesel and has done 10,000 miles in year one so he will get his ANNUAL service on his DS3 and then the next service will be done when he has covered either reached 22,500 miles or the end year two and would a SCHEDULED service.

Customer 2 has a diesel and has done 12,500 before the end of year one and he will get his SCHEDULED service on his DS3. The next service will depend on him either reaching 25,000 miles inside year two which would then be another SCHEDULED service or reaching the end of year two without reaching 25,000 miles and would give him a ANNUAL service.

Customer 3 has a petrol and has covered 14,000 miles in year one, he would get the ANNUAL service and in year two he would get the SCHEDULED service when he reached 34,000 miles or by the end of year two.

Customer 4 has a petrol and has covered 20,000 miles in year one so would get the SCHEDULED service, as he long as he doesn't do more than 35,000 miles before the end of year three he will get two ANNUAL services.

I hope this all makes sense and helps to answer and queries that members have, I apologize if I have given wrong info in my earlier posts or mislead anyone.

Thanks for all that Biggie - it is as I understood with one small exception.

I asked the saleman "does it include absolutely everything?" He told me it did including parts so there would not be a penny to pay for anything.
He was either lying (his lips were moving after all) or he did not understand it and was bullshitting.
I will remind him at my first service but doubt I will win

So, in summary, are you saying you have to pay for oil, filters etc on top of the £199?

I dont understand how they can charge for parts extra to the service plan? that is rediculous! having to pay for oil, filter etc separate is stupid and not a service plan. you dont have this mess on with mini's tlc or audi's service plan
I am going to phone my suppling dealer to see what they say cos if this is correct I am cancelling my service plan!

              You have misunderstood.....

The scheduled service is covered, parts use as part of that are included such as oil filters, extra items like brake pads will not be.

Sorry folks, but I don't get this business about resetting the service indicator after the annual (optional for warranty purposes) inspection.

Surely the scheduled (compulsory for warranty purposes) 20k service on a THP includes things that are not covered in the annual inspection?

It therefore seems strange that, if an annual inspection is done at, say, 14k miles, the tasks that should have been done at 20k miles don't now have to be done until 34k miles?

And how does this affect things like air & fuel filters, and brake fluid changes?

It seems to me that, in an effort to keep the headline servicing costs down by making the annual inspection service optional, Citroen have created a great deal of undesirable confusion.

When the annaul inspection is done any items that need attention will be done, so the annual service could by all means cover various points on the scheduled service which is why the service counter is reset.

Okey doke, many thank for the clarification, Biggie, and for giving us the definitive answer to the servicing offer confusion.

Cheers Big that does make sense...

I have a HDI 90bhp by the way..

Im worried about all the crap i got now - i got gap insurance and the service plan... I got emails stating what it all entails though (with no fine print) So i guess if they play hard ball at any point i stick that under their noses...

                              oh well!

They had a go at selling me gap insurance, but I declined. Partly as a complete write-off is very unlikely, partly as my insurance company will get me a new car if I have a total loss on a new one within the first year, which removes a lot of its usefulness.
