According to the handbook the car is meant to lock itself after 30 seconds

The other night I unlocked the car using the fob waited and the car locked as per handbook

Today Ive opened the car in the same way. all doors and boot shut but the car has'nt locked itself. ???

    Any ideas why ?

    Thanks

Did you open the boot or one of the doors?

The other night I just opened it with the fob and waited and it locked itself

Today I had both doors open. Then closed them and walked away. Then noticed 20mins later the car was still open

      To add

Just been out again to do a small job with the car open. I come in the house for a couple of mins, gone back out and it's locked itself

It will only auto lock if it's locked, then you unlock it (and don't open a door or the boot), 30 seconds later it will lock itself again.

Sounds like your car was unlocked because you didn't lock it...

        From the manual:
If one of the doors or the boot is still open, the central locking does not take place. When the vehicle is locked, if it is unlocked inadvertently, it will lock itself again automatically after thirty seconds unless a door or the boot is opened.

so your saying if I unlock the car but dont open a door or the boot then it will auto lock after 30 seconds,
BUT if i open a door or boot it wont

Spot on. It's not psychic, it's just to prevent accidental unlocking.

Most cars work that way, not just the french. If it locked after 30 seconds at any point that would be stupid.. Filling up, leave your keys in the car, the car locks, you're in shit

Just to confirm, the DS3 will ONLY auto lock after it has been told to lock in the first place. The idea is that you lock the car but while walking away catch the unlock button on the control the car will still be locked when you come back to it. IF you open any of the doors during the 30 second arming period then the auto lock will be cancelled.

                            1. Your car is locked, you unlock it but don't open a door or the boot, after 30 seconds it will relock assuming you accidentally pressed unlock.

                            2. Your car is locked, you unlock it and open a door or the boot and then close it again. The car will remain unlocked assuming you meant to unlock it.

                            Simples !
