On my old 1.6 eHDi I used to measure it by how many miles I did per tank. I used to get roughly 600 give or take 20 each way.

I've just got a new BlueHDi and am still on my first tank, I'm up to 480 and the trip computer says I can do 150 more

Then divide mileage on odometer by fuel used...or use something like fully that does all the maths for you but is essentially the same.
Or just use Fuelly and it will do it all for you, no maths needed.

As worked out by my fuel spend over the last 6 months /12000 miles and the trip computer readings just over 70 mpg. Very
              rarely drive in town.

I think you're referring to the live MPG, try pressing the button on the end of the right stick to cycle through trips (Live, Trip1, Trip2).

I've been using their website but they do have an app too: Gas Tracker by Fuelly.

Me as well, I just have the website on the tab on my phone and update it the moment I get back in the car after filling up.

That will be the average from last time it was zero'd (guessing the trip distance on both will be in the thousands). Select one of them then hold the button on the end of the stalk for 3 seconds that'll zero it and it'll start again.

ill try this out tomorrow thanks.
downloaded the app and put what ive done on full tank and guessed the litres from what i could remember and came out about 51mpg, little lower than i was expecting but may just be expecting abit much from previous car being so good

The 90 seems to struggle a bit at least ours does, we do a lot of hills, a lot of stop start traffic and lots of accelerating out of 30s into 60s and mostly about a 6 mile trip distance. As a result it seems to spend a lot of time flat out and also doesn't always get fully warmed on the downhill runs. It gets 48 mpg average, my petrol Mazda which weighs significantly more and is faster gets 41mpg in the same usage. Given a free hand we should have had a VTI but company car tax made it uneconomical to do so.

I'm sure if it saw a motorway it would do better but even on long runs it's never got better than 54mpg.
