Thanks for the Heads Up Bigfeet76 & DSThree

They've quoted me £298 with the DSport THP on Elect3 with £800 Deposit at 10'000 miles per year, they said its higher on the Petrol than the Diesel because the residual Value will be higher on the Diesel after 3years

    Hmmmm

That is true about the residual value, just having a quick look through Elect3 PCP based on what you said above the GFV on the THP is £6793 and on the Diesel its £7165.

Do you think I'll be able to bring him down on price then? Surely ~£400 can't cause an extra £30 per month over 3 years?

Don't forget that £400 split will also incur interest. The dealers can't change the residual GFV as that is set by the finance company, the only thing is to speak with you dealer direct and see what he can do for you in regards to your budget.

            Thanks for the reply

Hopefully I'll be able to sort something out, because even with interest @6.9% over 3 years its only about £449. I'll just ask him if he can go any lower, and then ask other garages if they can beat it, they can get quite competitive to get the sale, its a bit of a not-nice thing to do but at the end of the day its money!

There is no penalty if you settle early on your Finance. The only thing is that with PCP the full total is higher than HP because you are paying interest on two amounts rather than one. The other thing with PCP is that it is best NOT to settle if you do intend on changing at 3 years anyway.

HP is great if you buying a sofa or a TV as those are items that don't depreciate unlike cars. If you intend to swap your car at three years then why pay the full amount for it first? Thats where PCP is king, because if you swap you car at the end you never have to pay the GFV.

I wrote a quote for a customer the other day where she could pay either £270 over 3 years with a £3500 deposit or pay £168 over 3 years with no deposit and she changes the car very 3 years to avoid the MOT.

HP worked out (these are approx) at a total cost before changing at £13220, where PCP worked out at £6048.

She still took HP as she didn't trust PCP.........

Sorry to have wandered off there!!
