  • Auto wipers

When I turn my wipers onto auto, it is the same as putting them on intermittent. They don't change speed at all.

    Any ideas how to fix?

All depends on the amount of water on the windscreen. Mine will go crazy even with spray.

Is the sensor on the front clean?

      From the manual:

"The windscreen wipers operate automatically, without any action on the part of the driver, if rain is detected (sensor behind the rear view mirror), adapting their speed to the intensity of the rainfall."

I know how they're supposed to work, they've been fine for 2 years! They now remain at the same speed regardless of rainfall, and it's the same speed as putting intermittent manual on

Sensor may be dirty, not sure where it is though?

Ours do exactly the same as yours and operate as automatic intermittent and as there's no adjustment are useless..

Cleaning the screen doesn't seem to make a difference with ours but given how they are supposed to work new wiper blades and a cleaned screen does stand a chance of working.

The sensor is the thing on the window behind the rear view mirror.

I seem to remember they work by comparing the amount of light the screen lets in both before and after sweeps and any sudden decrease is what triggers them to start. So if your wipers are smearing then it can cause issues for the system, on the Mazda if the wipers are worn the system is erratic, on the ds3 it's never worked so can't really comment.

My old fiesta had sensitivity control for the auto wipers. They weren't perfect, but a hell of a lot better than my DS3.

The DS3 is the only car I've ever driven that has auto wipers and no sensitivity control. Gives the car character obviously auto wipers that work just aren't as fun.

Mine work very well so I don't understand the issue - if it's showering they're intermittent, with steady rain they work constantly and in a downpour they work superspeed.... Don't they all do this ?

Same here, I've found they seem to adjust to the speed you're going too. SO if its light rain and your going slow, the wipers work slow, if your going over sa\y...50? and its drizzly they speed up to keep the screen clear? or is this just my imagination.....

Nah I'd agree with that too.... I assumed it was caused by more drizzle hitting the sensor as the speed picked up.....

Mine used to do this until about 2 weeks ago. Now it doesn't matter how much rain there is, what speed I'm going, or the time of day. Intermittent is the only speed they go.

                              it would appear so

I guess my options are clean the sensor and/or replace the wiper blades.

                              Hopefully that'll sort it
