  • I just filled my car with the wrong fuel

Hi, i have just bought a used Citroen DS3, i absolutely love the car but last night i stupidly put the wrong fuel in it. I managed to get it home but it really struggled. So this morning i was searching online and it seems that i could have ruined my engine? is this true? Also i found this company http://www.wrongfuel-recovery.co.uk who i called and they said they will be able to come out and do it at my home address for £145. Has anyone ever used a company like this? They say they can do it in around 30-40 minutes, if its that quick, is it some thing that i can do myself? Does anyone know of a "how to" on how to drain the fuel tank on a DS3?

Any help or advice would be appreciated as i'm quite short on cash this month.

Im not a car mechanic but I think the worse thing you did was turn the engine over, now the fuel is mixed in the engine and makes it harder to repair.. Im sure someone who knows what they are talking about will give you better advice.

Think it depends which way round you did it, what engine fuel is it.

IIRC, whichever way round is worst (which I think is diesel into a petrol), the fuel pump nozzle is bigger than the hole so you can't do it. The other one is still bad but if you've only done a couple of miles then hopefully there is no lasting damage.

How much fuel did you put in, which fuel did you put in, and how many miles did you drive like it?

You'd need to to more than drain the fuel tank, now that you've run it through the engine. Get specialist help.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Its petrol into a diesel car? then it was driven for less than 2 miles back to my house.

Hi, thank you for your help. Would you say my quote for £145 is reasonable? Apparently there specialists in sorting this.

To drain the fuel, remove the back seats, and under there u have a fuel pump, disconnect the hose, and connect another hose, then connect fuel pump directly to a 12v (ur car battery), and let it work until all is gone...
Thats what I did when they put 95RON on my car and I had to remove it...

              Hope it helps

Thank you for your help! i'm going to try and lift out the back seats now. I just popped down to my local car parts shop and they had a fuel syphon tool that i will try. If not i may just have to call a company out to do it for me.

It is petrol in a diesel that is worse.

Hope it turns out ok for you.

Well.. You have to get that motor cleaned out 100% before turning it on. My bet is you will see a total engine failure in the nearest future. Never EVER turn the engine on, if you put petrol on a Diesel car.

Thanks Cyclone, couldn't remember which misfuel was the worst.

I return to my original statement:

Thank you! I have taken peoples advice and gotten the specialist to come out! They said they will be here in 30-40 minutes.
I got the back seats out after a struggle but i couldn't get the plates off under the seat so i put it all back together again for them to sort out.

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice!
