Okay so they arrived. Drained the tank and the filters etc from the engine bay. Got me all up and running in around 45 minutes. Fantastic service i have to say, cant recommend them enough.

There doesn't seem to be any lasting damage caused, so i guess i'll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed.

It really has been a nightmare to be honest. I'm going to have to buy a bright sticker to put above the filler cap for next time

didnt the RAC and AA said they sorted this if youre a member?

I wish! the AA (who i'm a member with) said it would cost £245 and that they wont be doing it, it will be a sub-contractor. They probably use that company or similar and keep a nice mark up for them selfs and their share holders.
They said its not covered under any of their breakdown covers as its a "drivers fault". Thats fair enough but to charge almost double what the private companies do??

Hopefully it's sorted now, all advice I've seen is to not start the engine and call for specialist help. Sounds like you might be ok

If you can, get a new fuel filter as some of the residual petrol will remain in there. Petrol is lighter than diesel so it'll always rise/sit atop of the diesel wherever the diesel is collected, i.e. tank or filter.

People wrongly think that the petrol won't burn properly, and that'll cause damage, but it's nothing to do with that: the damage is caused by the petrol and the way it lubricates the HP pump and injectors, it's that that can cause damage, and it's that noise that you'll hear from the engine when you have wrongly filled it.
