  • Fuel consumption

We're looking to buy a used DS3 having looked at all the cars on the market we think it's the best. Going from an Impreza STi to something far more frugal is the name of the game, really not worried about losing the performance.

We were hoping to get a HDI White (we love the black wheels and the Sirocco cloth) but they seem to be getting rare, so we're half considering going for a petrol and not a diesel (not necessarily the White).

So I was just wondering what mpg people are actually seeing in real life from the VTi and THP engines.

Any information would be really appreciated.

    Thanks all.

i am really suprised at that comment i thought the whites were common place now lol. i would have thought that you could pick up a petrol white easier than a diesel as maybe the diesels will sell first?

Should've clarified what I meant when I said "rare" we were looking at very nearly new diesels and there were a few around, but less so now. There are certainly less diesels around than petrol, but that is a common theme. Seems like a lot more petrols on the market and they're cheaper than the corresponding diesels.

My average is 40-42mpg with the THP with a good mix of driving. I did an experiment of eco driving last week for about 40 miles and got a average (on the trip) of 47!

Good to hear! The mpg was one thing I was unsure about the THP, if this is true it seems I won't need to worry!

Have a look at the when to change gear thread it gives some details on mpg too, I get anywhere between 47 - 76 mpg from my dsport 110, but my average over 6000 miles is 58.7mpg

Rickzaynes "driving quite well" means hitting the red "target" marker on his speedo often...

                          +1.

Caning the THP rarely sees the mpg drop below 35, and mid-40s is achievable with a bit of care but without having to drive like a granny.

My VTi 120 averaged 37.7 mpg over the first 6,000 miles - best I've had on a tankful was 41.7.

No doubt "better" consumption is possible, but I drive to get where I want to go & have as much fun as I can in the process, not to save a few pence!

1.6hdi - put £50 diesel at 142.9p a litre !!! Got 447 miles out of it, could have got another 20-30 max out of it and yes I hit the 4000revs mark a few times
