Hi there, I am on the cusp of buying a DStyle or possibly a DSport, depending, however all the dealer is willing to throw in are some floor mats! When you are spending the best part of 20 grand on a car, that's pretty insulting, no? Apparently they are forbidden by Citroen due to their high profile, but can this actually be the case, particularly in this current economic climate with new car sales down on last year and people tightening their belts? What I mean to ask is, did any of you manage to get anything off your sale? I'm sure they're playing hardball but just intrigued to know whether they will ever budge or if this is actually the case!

On a side note, another citroen dealer told us that they are only allowed to sell 20 DS3's a year! Sure!

    Any help appreciated!

Its a new car, what do you expect? Same at other places too, try getting freebies/money off a mini ......nightmare, and it seems its the same for DS3s! Although Biggie, our inside man will clarify im sure

In reality wrt freebies, you could probably bargain hard and get a full tank of fuel, and at best mudflaps or something similar, but the DS3's are highly specced as standard.

              Welcome to the club,

Sounds like a bit of a yarn to me if I'm honest. As Dave pointed out all DSport's come with the Carpet mats as standard where the DStyle and Dsigns don't and any dealer would be a fool not to give to you in order to complete a sale and the mats cost about £45.

On a side note I supply mats to all my customers FOC, they maybe not the Citroen ones but I never let a car go out with bare floors

Ask for a free tank of petrol at LEAST. If he says no then just say you'll go elsewhere.

Also make sure to tell him you know the DSport comes with free mats. Let him know you're pissed off that he even tried to pull the wool over your eyes and say he was throwing them in.

Thanks guys useful stuff, and as I thought. Good advice actually just to say outright we'll go elsewhere rather than imply it, its business after all!! Have been playing the whole 'who will blink first' card. Just seriously itching to order, this is tough!

                    Thanks for the welcome!

On a side note remember to be realistic with freebies, it's all every well people telling us what they got but we don't know what numbers are involved. Any freebies a dealer gives you are paid out of the margin of the car and thats got to cover your over allowance, PDI costs and valet cost first. What freebies a dealer can offer is going to depend on whats left to play with and please remember that the guy who is spending time with you and looking after all your questions and helping to make sure that your order and handover goes smoothly deserves to be paid fairly...

By the way in my experience a customer who demands this and that will end up becoming a 'walker'.

I was lucky enough to be able to play 2 local dealers off against each other.

On a Dstyle I managed to get Mats, Mudflaps, Supaguard, Baguettes & 3 years servicing!

                          Biggie is right! (Obviously )

You do need to take into account what amounts he's working with and what discount he has already given. If he's already knocked off a decent amount from the car, the chances are he'll say sod it, he won't be making enough £££ on the deal, and 'you're not getting anything else'. However if he hasn't gave you any/much discount he could just be playing hard to get!

If you're thinking he's not doing enough for you the only thing you can do is either:

                          - Walk. If he has the ability to offer you further discount, or something to sweeten the deal he'll do the "Ok, I'll have to speak to my manager" - Or he'll give you a phone call.

                          or

                          - You could phone another dealer. Tell them the deal that he's offered you, ask what they can do. You can then go back to your chosen dealer and say look, this dealer is offering me this, can you beat it.

This isn't a very 'nice' thing to do, but at the end of the day you're spending your own cash & you shouldn't have to pay any more than you need to.

Just go to another citreon garage and say you have a quote and they'll normally give it cheap or some extras to steal the deal xD

It's what they tried with me when I went to the wrong garage xD

But I was dealing with my dads friends friend...
