My sister and I tried this, spent ages pushing against the footwell, various spots places whilst I had my foot on the break pedal - I'd feel my pedal move right? Thats how it worked on Watchdog.
Nothing moved on my 10 plate DS3.

This used to work on my C2 but the brakes could not be applied sharply only lightly as it took a lot of pressure from my passenger and they had to "lift" the bar not "push" on it. And the brake lights come on so anyone hitting anyone in the rear...it would be their fault anyway...

I'm with Gareth, even when there isn't a gaurd my mate who is shall we say "well built" (that being an understatement) using all his force could only make my C2 stop at a very slow pace as the pressure is applied almost directly to the master cylinder instead of when the break pedal is applied the assembly acts like a lever and from GCSE physics I'm sure most of us remember that levers make jobs easier...

As I've said in both his threads on PistonHeads, my 10-reg DS3 has a heavy steel guard over the brake linkage in the passenger footwell.
Edit: reading further posts on PH the actual driver has made the comment:
"however there is a block in the way of the system on the showroom car's stopping us from getting to it"
