  • Driver's side vibration slight rattle - advice please

Firstly I love my new DS3 before people think this is a negative post which it isn't.

OK I like things to be right on my car.

Having had my car about 11 days now a slight 'vibration' has started which I'm hearing in my right ear. I am 90% sure it isn't the window - the noise occurs when on slightly rough roads, about 25mph plus, and is caused by 'up/down' movement rather than side to side. It is very subtle but definitely there. Now despite a comment elsewhere on keyboard warriors I did get all my money back on a car which had some rattles / noises, however this is very subtle but I want it corrected. I don't want people (Citroen) pulling off panels blindly, however, this is around ear level and has a 'vibration' sound rather than a rattle. I think it has got a little worse today. I have a friend who is in a choir (i.e.a very good 'ear') and I went and colllected him and he could hear it. He was 90% sure it was from the rear seat belt but we couldn't soften it or be certain it was there......

Before I go back to Citroen just wanted anyone elses experience / advice on this, partucularly interested if someone has experienced something same / similar and what they had done to correct it (appreciate it is hard describing a noise!)....

    Thanks,
    Clive.

although you are ruling out the window, have you tried lowering it whilst driving to see?
I did have 2 rattles - The window one which is resolved by opening and closing the window, but still happens every now and then. The 2nd was resolved by pushing against the plastic trim next to the window frame. Slight pressure is all that was needed and that has now gone. I first thought this was the seatbelt but proved to be the "arm rest" area under the window.

I intended on getting my entire local church choir into mine to locate it but managed to find it on my own on the way there. :P

      Nice one on the choir!

In terms of the window I've tried the open / close bit but no difference - I think I can still hear it when the window is open a few mm - but of course the road noise then confuses it.....

Will try your suggestions on the arm rest, it sounds higher than that area, but will try anything as want to get rid of it!

      Regards,
      Clive.

I am the same with rattles, I cant stand them!! I thought the vibration sound (not a rattle) was higher up also, but i pushed the arm rest area from the left bottom all away across to the right hand side where it meets the upright and this resolved it. It hasn't done it since(touch wood) It didn't require a great deal of pressure as I didn't want to make it worst.

OK thanks I will try that - I think I know the area you're describing....

Did you find you mainly heard the noise when the car was moved 'up and down' rather than on a 'smooth' road? If so it points more to the same thing you had.....

          Regards,
          Clive.

ps more than interested in other people's experiences, or anything that might already be 'lodged' with Citroen that people are aware of reporting and addressing this sort of vibration.....

I've gotta squeek at the bottom of the LCD display in the centre.. Only started occurring after some erm.. quick.. driving on the 70 roads

I'm a bit dubious about taking it to my local dealer because I didn't get the car from there.. I'll just wait and see if it annoys me

Good idea, in my experience of previous cars, I've only ever had rattle/noise problems immediately, they've not 'developed' through pure use....hopefully the DS3s won't do that on the whole!

              Clive.

Only two suggestions I can make for you is to try the front seat belt buckle, had some C3 & DS3 with a buzz coming from there. Second if your friend is sure about the back then the noise may be coming from the rear seat support clip (the bit that holds the seat in the upright position) try folding the seat slightly and see if thats the source of the noise. The only noise I've had on our DS3 was a buzz coming from the centre arm rest when it was in the raised position, a slight nudge down solved that.

I guess the Keyboard warrior comment is directed at me (thats okay, I don't mind) the only thing is that if you go back to the dealer then they will sort any issue by themselves as noises like this aren't covered by the warranty and with that in mind they are only likely to do so much as they have to cover the cost. Best thing to do is try and track down the location of the noise yourself before hand, you may need to put someone into the back as noises tend to deflect inside a car so the source may not be from where you think.

Hope you figure it out and let us know.

                        Thanks for your advice....

Yes, indeed the comment was directed at you, I normally ignore such posted things as won't argue on a forum, but I did get my money back on a car (wasn't a Citroen I hasten to add, and I got a brand new one), I didn't argue based on whether it was covered under the warranty or not, however, this is a public forum and I don't want to go there here.....however, let's forget that, I appreciate your help here....

I'm sure this is solvable, and if anything it's getting a bit worse - which in a way I'm pleased - as this should mean it's easier to track down where the issue is. Yes my friend (the one in the choir) has said to me in detail that the noise is likely not originating from where I can hear it. Trouble is 99% of the time I'm by myself in the car so I need someone else to 'listen in' (or drive and let me sit in the back, Clair on here might be the candidate for that, as I'll be meeting her and her husband on Saturday so as she is a DS3 driver, she might be ideal to give it a spin whilst I listen in to the source (interesting if she hears it too)....(I'm gouing to post something on the meet if people are interested)....

I just want to solve it as I love the car apart from that - interesting I know if I've chosen a car well by the basis of can I say 'this is the best car I've ever had' and I can! And I've had a string of Audis and other cars, all lovely, and decided I need to stop growing up, give the other car I fancied a go and picked this!

Your rear seat support clip sounds (no pun intended!) a good idea as my friend was quite convinced it was originating from the seat belt area. I did open and close the seat (more to look at the seat belt fittings) but the act of opening and closing it made no difference. I'll check that out.... however I could still hear it with a passenger in the rear seat directly behind me (you'd think weight in the seat would stop it).

Thanks for your advice, appreciated.....will find this bu*%?g one way or another!

                        Regards,
                        Clive.

                          Hi Clive

No problem, when we meet on sat we can have a look to see if we can pin point the source of the noise, i have posted a reply on your PM on detailing world too. Im sure between us we can get to the bottom of it.

                          Really looking forward to sat.

I have noticed a rattle (vibrating) at speed, 50+ I am convinced it is coming from inside the roof lining above the drivers window. Just my 2 pennies worth.

Thanks mate - I'm getting it at slower speeds than that. but who knows, these things are tricky tobe sure where they come from.
