Do all new DS3s come with "Stop/Start" technology?

At the risk of sounding stupid, I have to ask everyone how you can notice that your car indeed has Stop/Start technology?

I was told by the sales person at Citroen when I ordered the car on 30th May that all DS3s (or perhaps only the diesels, mind - mine is a DSport) ordered from then on would have it, but I don't think mine has! It doesn't say it specifically on the order form so how do I check if I should have been given it.

I have already checked the manual and it says you have to have an ECO button by the buttons for switching off the alarm, and mine hasn't got that. It also doesn't have a light on the dash to show when you are in 'ECO MODE' as it says in the manual. I also talked to Citroen headquarters when they surveyed me a couple of days after taking delivery, and the lady said you should be able to notice the difference when you stop at a traffic light, put the car in to neutral and take your foot off the clutch, as the engine would be quiet, but I can hear my engine running still. I know ECO mode doesn't kick in until a couple of miles in and it doesn't work just after reversing, but I have tried it several times along my journey i.e. when the engine has been running for a bit... and still nothing!

Does anyone know if the newer DS3s definitely come with Stop/Start? Perhaps someone who has ordered their car at about the same time and has taken delivery of it can confirm they have it? I know there are people who work for Citroen on this forum, so perhaps they can tell me why I would not have it or how I can check?

If my car really doesn't have it I would be seriously pissed off because I was sold it as a feature. It is also supposed to be more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly, plus I think it would put me in a higher road tax bracket for when I start paying next year!

I own a DStyle eHDI diesel which has the Stop/Start feature. I was under the impression that this was the first DS3 model to feature it, but haven't a clue whether it has made it to other models yet.

It's really obvious when the engine cuts out, as when you put her in neutral and lift the clutch (below 12mph), the revs will drop to zero and a big green "eco" light will appear within the rev counter dial. As you mention, there is a button to disable the feature down at the right of the steering wheel near the ESP button (I don't have an alarm, so no alarm button!).

i thought it was just the e-hdi models that had it at the minute? biggie will be the man to ask!

Yeah, that's what the e is for in eHDI. I'm waiting for a Dsport (which i know won't have it) too but it sounds to me that it would be about the same amount if effort to just switch the engine off manually as it would be to go in to neutral and take your foot off the clutch anyway!

Whenever I've stopped I'll put the handbrake on and put it into neutral. My thinking is that if I'm holding it on the footbrake or the clutch and I flinch, I'll roll into someone or going piling into the back of them. I always get a bit worried for my bumpers when people start rolling back when they're starting off.

From what I've played with you have to have the car in neutral and before the system will engage the 'stop & start' and off the clutch,you don't seem to need the handbrake or footbrake.

Is there a recommended duration of expected stopping time in which to activate Eco?

I'm obviously not going to take my car out of gear and foot off the clutch if I'm only going to be stopped for 2 seconds as it'll be awkward for me. But getting the engine to cut out for 10 seconds at the lights will save me a whole 10 seconds of fuel. Will there be any detrimental effects on the engine if I'm stopping it and restarting it after such a short time?

From what I understand the ECU will make the judgment whether to engage the 'stop/start' by it's self. You do need to be within certain parameters which are listed in the handbook on page 153.

There is no wear to worry about as the system is designed to be stopped and started more often then normal and has a specially reinforced starter to cope.

It does this so you dont leave the car with the engine on I guess. I imagine if you have parked up for a bit then get out and forgot the engine was running you would have issues.
The Air Con doesnt always trigger the Engine start on mine, only if it doesnt seem to have enough stored energy, or the engine isn't warm.
I hated the stop start in the Fiat but think this system works almost flawlessly.
You dont have to be at a stand still either, below 12 MPH and out of gear it will switch the engine off. All your bits still work such as power steering and brakes. Then it fires up instantly when the clutch is pushed in.
I dint want it to start with, but now I have it I am more than happy
