  • Crashed into after 10 days!!

Well I knew my luck was too good to be true... I leave the airforce and put all my savings into my dream car as my start in a new job in civvie street and some ***hole foreign driver not paying attention rear ends the car. My partner was driving at the time and crawling in traffic when she whacked from behind and it pushed her into the car in front.

Basically it needs a complete new front end as the grill is smashed and is scratched and loose and the rear end is the same with a destroyed parking sensor bit and the exhaust is hanging about 3 inches lower and looks like it was shunted because the heat shielding underneath looks all warped.

The car is driveable it seems.

Basically my worry is getting the car into a "as new condition". After all the car is 10 days old and a factory order. I am worried and looking for advice on several factors.. 1) As new bumpers, front and back, are only primed, what if the colour match is off on my sport red?
2)What if the repair shop don't have the experience of doing DS3 repairs like this as it is a fairly new car. I don't want a bodge job.
3)I guess iam concerned I will have that niggle that the car has been repaired and not like a factory fit. As a techie myself, albeit aircraft, I know the difference between a repair and a brand new and that really annoys me!!

Excuse my frantic stress but I am sure you can syampathise.

If it's anything like when someone crashed into us (when we had a Peugeot), which it should be.. All the damaged parts will be replaced with official manufacturer parts, rather than being repaired. So it'll just be a case of unclipping/unscewing any damaged parts, ordering the new ones.. and then fitting the new ones in their place. Hopefully any decent garage you go to will be able to do this, even though the DS3 is a new model. Also, I believe the inner workings of the DS3 are similar to the C3.. So they should have experience from that.

Also, don't forget to get your injury claim in

        Oh no!!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the repairs. If you are going through insurance then they will only use approved garages. My Sister dinked her Mini last week and her repairs are going through a BMW assured repair place, insured with Tesco. She has specialist paint as she has a limted Mini One 7 so this was a concern for her too.

Also when someone kindly walked over my C3 it went to a Citroen approved garage.

I think Red is an easy colour to match re the primmed bumpers - being dark grey (black) underneath I think you'll be fine. White may be an issue. They would also use the right citroen red.

A few people have had their bumpers resprayed (due to off white) and there has been no issue regarding fitting and durabillty once off and on again (in your case new so there will be no fatigue on the clips etc). One having a Racing, so I don't think there is anything to worry about Bumper repspray thread If you wanted to question the work regarding fixing the bumpers back on you could as someone who has had it done?

I have seen a few DS3 dinks and think most will know about the fixtures etc! Plus as x6411 has said, under the bodywork it is similar to the C3.

        sometimes I sound like I know what I am talking about . . . . a bit . . . . .

Thanks guys for the kind responses and thankyou X6411 and WTF for making me feel a little happier about a repair. My partner and I hardly slept a wink last night as so annoyed about it. It's funny that you drive for years and it has to be the 10 day old new car that gets you your first incident!!

Bugger mate! I know how you feel. How long have you been without it now? How did they react to it being 9 days old? Did you get the impression that it would better to fit brand new stuff rather than a buff and repair job? That is my fear that the assessor will look at a scratched front grill and say " oh we'll that will polish out..."

For an essentially a brand new car I will fight to the end for new!

My alloy and bumper are damaged apparently alloy repairable which annoys me I said I wanted new as car is new !!! Bur nor my choice apparently it's down to insurance assessor in regards to bumper damage was light so a paint job is ok , but alloy will be gone over with fine tooth comb don't worry ! Apparently insurer tells me repaired work is guaranteed for life I own car so if not happy with alloy in a year can call !

Just annoyed to be hit though waited 14 weeks then 9 days in no car ! They took it last Thursday get it back Tuesday can't wait !!

No mention of injuries, yet people advising to claim for them? Is this the thing to do when having had an accident?

Based on the amount of damage described, I'd say the chance of a whiplash injury would be pretty high.
