  • Is the anti-perforation warranty worth the servicing costs?

Our 2015 DS3 is currently on 51000 miles, it currently has a FSH and we've got it covered by Warranty Wise. The Warranty Wise renewal is going up from £30 to £50 a month and won't even include all the stuff we have now (airbags, MOT failure, emissions etc) in fact it only includes mechanical and air con as its approaching 60K so goes onto their 06/60 plan

We have to service the car twice a year due to the mileage we do, which varies from £140 to £300 depending on what type of service etc (and most of the time that only includes oil, oil filter and air filter with a visual check of everything else)

Now I've read a lot about door mirror rust which makes me want to keep getting it serviced but I've also read about how Citroen will try to get out of repairing it by claiming its down to the paint so it's not covered under warranty or similar

Is it worth keeping the cars FSH just for the anti perforation? We can't sell it for at least another 4 years and we've estimated it'll be on at least 150K by that time if not more. Obviously we will never get back what we've spent on servicing when we sell the car even with a FSH with that sort of mileage so I'm not to bothered about that

Plus, even when we do pay to have it serviced, last time they put in reconstituted semi synthetic 10w-40 oil and they had to redo it! It also came back with a few minor scratches but I can't prove they weren't there when it went in! At least if you do it yourself, you know the right stuff is being used and that its being cared for properly!

The anti perforation warranty is NOT included as standard even if you have a FSH from a Citroën / DS dealers/garage. Its an extra piece of work, that you, as the owner, are responsible for asking for yourself at the required intervals, which is detailed in the back of your handbook. I only know this, because I missed the first one and despite my protests, my dealership utterly refused to do it after I had realised 4 months later than my scheduled full service. So even though they WILL remind you for an MOT or service, they will not remind you about the anti perforation check. They said that the onus is the owner to request it. Probably because its their way of wangling their way out of paying for anything that might be wrong, like the rust under the mirrors that the DS3's have issues with.

I no longer go to any garage that's Citroën or DS owned or franchised. I've got a cracking local garage near me that are honest and do a really good job of both MOT and services and mine has never ran better and their prices are far more competitive. £300 for a full service on my 6 year old DS3 is, in my eyes, frankly a rip off!!

I do detail mine regularly and ensure that I treat it with good quality wash, wax and super resin polish as many times as the weather allows and only use soft microfibre cloths and this seems to be protecting the paint and bodywork well so far, so even though I won't ever be covered under anti perforation warranty, hopefully all my hard work in keeping it in good condition will stop any problems with the paintwork.
