Hill start assist

Hill Start Assist is only on models that deploy the EGS gearbox, granted the picture displayed does show a manual car but the system is designed for the EGS.

The reason it exists is because the EGS is a automated manual gearbox which uses a clutch and therefore has no 'creep' which normally overcomes starting off on a hill. Because as soon as you release the brake on an EGS car the car can 'roll', and on a hill you definitely don't want this, so the system applies pressure to the brakes in order to allow you to move from one pedal to another.

Oh well - must have been imagining it.

Seems like it would be a useful feature for the manual transmission models - saves messing around with handbrake but never mind.

I've only one thing to say to those people who blind me in a traffic queue at night - handbrake! (It also helps on hill starts and means you don't have to have "hill start assist" - what next - anti-stall devices for learners!)

Seems some people have forgotten they have one.

I have a DSports plus 1.6 155 THP model and I thought I had hill start assist too.
Will try it out and let you know. I have to go up a steep hill on way home from work with traffic lights at the top but
there's always someone close behind me to try it out. I use my handbrake. Chicken i know!

There's No Need, Everyone Already Knows That The Manual DS3's Don't Have The Hill Start Assist...

Ooooops, I have an Auto so yes I do have hill start assist, very good too, although I tend still to use the handbrake anyway, just the natural thing to do.

Manual - no Hill Start
Auto (CVT) - no Hill Start
EGS - Hill Start

i have the ds3 auto and it holds itself on a hill my guess is this is the gearbox won't let it roll backwards? Especially as it creeps forwards when on a flat surface?

Your half right, the auto doesn't tend to roll but because of the 'creep', on a slope the two counter balance each other.

My car has hill start... only works if there is a car close behind though =]
