  • Anyone Using a TomTom Start 60 Europe?

Was just about to go off and buy a new sat nav as I let our old one go with the C4. I was thinking of the TomTom Start 60 Europe? I like the larger screen and looking at the specs and reviews it seems to be a good mix of features and price but thought I would just ask here first to see if anyone has one and if so, what do you think of it ?

Not sure about that model but I'd definitely stay in the Tom Tom direction

Get a Google Nexus 7 tablet and get free Satnav. Works really well and you have a bigger screen plus a device that can do so much more!!!

I have always preferred the Garmin over the TomTom because I find the screen is much better to read when driving, not as fussy.

Plus you can load up different icons from monster trucks to tanks!

Any Android device and something like CoPilot. 1 time purchase, live traffic, online POI search, full EU, Ireland and UK maps and depending on your device you have a satnav screen as big as you want- runs on my 10.1" Xoom and also on my 4.8" s3- brodit mounts are great for them. IF you own an Android phone then you really will save yourself a lot of money by simply installing one of the full satnav packages you can get for them. They all connect via your cars bluetooth so total handsfree ahoy.

PS Also quite a few on iPhones

God that pained me saying that

Yeah I have the Galaxy S3, Tab 10.1 and iPad but I prefer a dedicated device. I don't want to have to keep taking my phone out of it's flip case. The tab 10.1 is massive! way too big for a sat nav and the iPad is the wireless only version so not great for navigation, it's also too big. A nexus would be overkill given I already have two tabs. Also just been trying the S3 for navigation and it's incredibly slow, in fact it's still trying to get driving directions now, so that's over five minutes! Of course it could be network related but still, I know our old sat nav would have easily done the job in about 15-30 seconds.

Our old sat nav was a Garmin Nuvi 660 Euro. Liked it a lot and it worked faultlessly on every trip around Europe and the UK however it was getting a bit old and lacked a few features I wanted. Always like Garmin but thought I would give TomTom a go this time around.

S3 is still searching! Ahh but it's using Google Maps so that could be it. Not sure how CoPilot would fare.

The built in Navigation uses google maps and nothing is stored locally so it's shockingly slow, Copilot stores everything locally and is lightning quick (10 times quicker than a standalone satnav) especially on the S3:

Where did you get the mount for your S3?

Those are both Brodit mounts, there's a few places stock the specific ones for the ds3- Bigfeet knows a good one, I wouldn't recommend where I got mine from- took over 2 weeks to get them to me

Been reading mixed reviews of CoPilot. Some people saying it's the best sat nav they have ever used and others saying maps out of date, slow and disinterested response from customer service, glitches and lacking in some features.

Still in two minds about it. Would help if they had a demo version so I could test it out. Was in Halfords earlier looking at the TomTom Start 60 which looks very nice and comes with it's own mount but then I saw Halfords now have their own range of very sturdy mounts for mobile phones and tabs. Tried one with my S3 and it was rock solid. One of those plus CoPilot is going to set me back just shy of fifty quid so a lot less than the £139 for the TomTom however, if it's fifty quid down the drain I am not going to be happy as that could have gone toward a dedicated device. Off to France at the end of Sept so need to make a decision in the next few weeks.

It's never steered me wrong yet and I do alot of driving and I've never had to contact customer services so far.

Copliot Live used to be the free version but it didn't store maps locally. There's also Navigon, Aura and some others- I prefer copilot myself but they all have different approaches to different things

Ahh I think it's CoPilot Live I have been hearing complaints about. I heard Navigon was it's nearest competitor. The other complaint I heard was how fast the software drained the battery of the S2/S3?
