ALL cars burn a little oil, ive yet to see a car that burns NO oil its just a question of how much oil is burnt in how much time his oil lvl is just under max
I find a lot of cars get a little bit of white mayonnaise around the oil filler cap because it's at the top of the engine.
Air has a certain amount of water vapour in it, as the engine cools, so does the air and some of the water vapour condenses into a liquid. When water emulsifies with oil it goes white. A little bit on the oil cap is probably just water vapour from the air, a lot in the rocker cover and the dipstick is something to worry about.
All cars get white smoke when cold, when the head gasket goes you get so much white smoke you can see it in your mirror for ages.
I had a look at mine this afternoon. There is a small amount of "mayonnaise" on the oil filler cap, susprisingly little considering that for the last month it's only done very short runs, a mile or so at, most. By the time we arrive home on Sunday morning, after a 90-mile round trip, mostly motorway, it will have cleared.
Yes. . . and a bloody nuisance at times! My drive has a very low wall to one side. Backing the car into the drive with the engine still cold means that the wall is totally obscured by the steam. Why did Citroen have to put the exhaust on the right hand side!
I've got them, but I need to get it lined up before the wall is within range. They are very useful when I'm actually reversing down the drive - just keep the beep at the right level & I know I'm at the right distance from the wall.
Edit:
Meanwhile, back on topic
Just checked my oil filler cap; as predicted, clean as the proverbial whistle.
