Based on my experience, if the THP engine itself fails, it is most likely a piston crack. Fuel pump, oil pump, turbo, and other accessory failures are another matter.
The positive side is that usually it does not damage cylinder walls and only slight if any honing is required.
Just grab new pistons, put 'em in. Disassemble oil pump, clean it from metal debris, strengthen it and re-assemble oil pump. Since the engine is open clean valves as they are full of crap, if you want to add performance port cylinder head. Then just wrap the package and drive her like you stole her.
Very rarely you need a completely new block or cylinder head. Even con rod bearings are absolutely fine under 100tkm driven engines.
And even if the cylinder wall is damaged beyond honing, you can always bore it bigger and get the e.g. 77mm pistons.
CP and Wössner provide excellent aftermarket pistons (forget about stock ones, they will crack again). Though, with CP you need to get custom con rods due to different pin size (I think some Honda's are compatible). Wössners are usually bundled with ZRP con rods which fit in perfectly.
Just my 5 cents.Last edited by Ragnarok; 19-06-2013, 21:13.Citroën DS3 Racing 2011 Polar White
