The higher gears are just to save fuel really, for maximum economy (using cruise control) it will happily sit in 4th @30mph, 5th @40mph and 6th @50mph and above.

Hi,
I had exactly the same experience as you - I drove Diesels for years - in fact I had about 4 Audi A4s and on occasion the dealer gave me a pokey petrol one whilst my A4 was serviced. I said to a colleague 'this is slower than my diesel' - went out for a drive and he said 'you're driving it all wrong, chaning up way too early' - followed his advice and 'wow' what a kick from the petrol engine.
Many years or so later after maybe 10 more Diesels including 4 Seat Leons, the last one being a 170BHP one, the DS3 DSport Plus seemed like a slow coach the day I got her. Once I realised 'stop changing up so early you wazzok', I started flooring it and I now appreciate that 7.3 secs 0-60 - a second or so quicker than my Leon FR was. Might I try the 115 BHP diesel? Yea, I might cos I love trying different cars - but I guarantee it is just down to you getting used to petrol and where the torque is in the rev range - simple advice, floor it!

I'm still changing gear when told to do so by the car. Main reason no fast roads that I can risk giving the car a few revs to see what she can do. Sigh.Daron Brewood

I used too, Macc is my home towm. And I agree with the above - the road to the Diddle is a death trap (three mates killed / injured on it in my youth), and way too may cameras.
Best Road found so far is the Handforth bypass but a few unmarked speed cars around there too.
Oh and to quote from the page referenced:
The road sweeps high into the Peak District National Park and is full of twisty bends and amazing views in what is a stunning area. It can be full of cars, 4×4’s, caravans, police cars, unmarked police cars and bikes.
Running over the heart of the Peak District. This road has been made famous by motorcycle driving enthusiasts because of the many and challenging bends. This is also classed as one of the most dangerous roads in the UK

The new bit that bypasses Alderley Edge is a decent length to test the rev range though
