I definitely don't have the issue with 1st gear you guys are describing, will be interested to see what response you get though

I have had this too it feels like you haven't pushed the clutch down properly (which I have) and the gear just doesn't wanna go in. I found if you let the clutch up and pressed it again it was fine. Funnily enough the only other car I've had this problem with was my c4

I heard once that this was down to the previous or current owner, not letting the car come to a COMPLETE stop before changing into first, I.e changing down at 5mph, which makes it more difficult to put into first gear in the future?

Perhaps someone can anyone shed some light onto this?

I've got an E-HDI too so I'm really curious as to what response you get.

When I am at the lights and the eco kicks in I can't put my car in any gear till I put my clutch down, like there is something blocking it. I assumed it was just a feature.

I have the 110ehdi as well. It feels a bit 'notchy' (if that's the right word), but I am still able to easily put it into first. It's just that all of the other gear changes are really smooth, and shifting into first feels a bit like you almost hadn't pushed the gear stick far enough to the left before pushing it forward into first.

Like you, I assumed it was just a quirk of the car, and I have got used to it after 10,000 miles (as well as the annoying A pillar blind spot).

Going to drag up an old thread! I have very notchy gears and its doing my head in! As said above sometimes when sitting at lights in neutral, then clutch in and go for 1st, it wont go in... I have to select 2nd then it will go into 1st gear but not with ease!

I was told recently on my first service that it was a common fault on this particular gear box. They regreased it apparently but still having the same problem. Don't know if it is getting worse or I'm just noticing it more.

Driving stopped at lights, try to put into 1st and doesn't budge until you try it 2-3 times

Happens from 3rd to 4th as well if the car is cold

I have the same problem too ...plus the thing that synchronizes the gears with the shaft (excuse my English hope you get what I mean) sometimes has a mind of its own and the car wont go into gear and make a disqusting and disturbing noise!
DS3's are like pizza..they're good even when they're bad..

Well a bit of an update on this, local garage had the car recently for a couple of days and found nothing.

When I was chatting to brother in law he asked if I eased off the clutch a bit what happens? So I tried and sure enough it pops in (literally pops in!). So I went back to the garage and they still seemed confused, even more so when I answered no to them asking if I had trouble with reverse also.

So just waiting for them to have a courtesy car in so I can drop it off now (drive for work now ) .

That wouldn't be the big B down the road from you would it? I'm thinking of taking mine there soon. I'm having quite a bit of trouble with reverse at the moment. I'm having to declutch slightly at times to be able to engage the gear and I'm also still having some minor problems with first. Does everyone here with the issue have the 5 speed box?
