I'm pretty sure this company texted me about buying my C4 last year, they offered about £500 more than the Citroen dealer said they'd do. I rang them to see if that's what they'd actually pay me for the car and accidentally rang he Citroen dealer (didn't realise if rang the wrong number until they said they hadn't offered to buy my car) 30 mins later I get a call back from Citroen saying that they'd match this other companies offer if I part exd for the racing. So if you look at part exchanging id tell the dealer about the offers you've had as they can usually match it if you can prove it

Precisely, theyd just end up taking whatever discount they can give me on the Audi and tacking it on to the part ex price to inflate that and I'd end up screwed at the other end. Guess you have to go in with the money ready, dont mention how youre gna pay until youve got the tag price to where you want it as theyll be offesetting overall profit in the finance deal, then when price is set say heres my card I'll pay the full amount

i agree. you cant beat talking straight figures, and part ex figures just confuse the matter
But then you got the hassle of selling first. Age old conundrum

I did similar when I bought my first DS3, I haggled on the price of the DS3 to get what I thought was a good price and then mentioned the trade-in of my Astra, we then went through the same haggling and eventually got a trade in price equivalent to private sale value of the car and a reduced price on the DS3.

I was pleased with that Citroen didn't seem to care that it was an Vauxhall for the trade in

Do people really have so much money that they can throw away X amount of cash by part exchanging?

                        Genuinely curious.

For me I got the private sale value when I p-ex the Astra and I was v pleased as Vauxhall were claiming it needed a new twin plate clutch and sundries and had quoted over £1.5k for the work/parts etc

Sounds like you did alright, but others don't get anywhere near such a good deal
