  • Carbon build up on intake valves(THP)

Gave the car a major service this morning as it was about due and the Mrs had reported that it seemed slightly lumpy whilst idling. Car has just clocked 25k
Popped in the inlet manifold off to get the camera down.

Catch tank has been fitted on the front PCV for the last 8K miles but recently fitted a twin system.

This afternoon we placed an order for a walnut blaster and will be offering the service to our customers.

Will post up after cleaning images when we do it.

Looks alot of build up! Do you think you will be able to do this on the 207? I was gonna get mine done at manchester from a company who had offered it on the mini's, but apparently their blaster will not fit the 207 with the location of the inlet manifold (very back of the bulkhead, dont know how it compares to a ds3)

I would of thought it would be harder to do on the mini, there's loads of room at the back of the engine on the DS and 207, intake ports are the same as the mini. Took me 15 mins to get the manifold out of the way.
It might be because the bulkhead hangs over the top of the engine a bit and you can't get the adapters and hoses in properly. I'll find out soon enough.

Yeah i think you are right about the bulkhead, i know of other people who have had their 207 done though so i bet it must be an equipment related job. I will keep an eye out on here for updates, defenaitely save alot of money over paying a near £1000 bill for a head strip and decoke !

Not particularly surprised, but that does look well carboned up.
Best advert for a catch can on the THPs i think, although your is a fair bit above standard looking at your 217BHP signature
Didnt Citroen offer a "Special spray" as treatement. Good if you can offer a better service Jamie

Hoping the sparkly bits in the picture is just a funny reflection from the LED camera light and not engine particles :-/

Yes but Michelle only uses around 40 of the 217 horses, I never get to drive it

You can see in one of the pics where a fresh chunk of carbon has come off and been processed :-/ , causing possible valve seat damage.
I'll do a compression test but compression did feel good on all 4 pots

This is why the HDi engines are the way forward !

Great pictures and very enlightening. 25,000 miles with a catch can recently and this is still pretty well carboned up to a point where you would start to expect it to cause further problems. These are going to be very expensive cars to run with engine servicing running to regular inlet tract and valve cleaning required. I have mine done under warranty once now at 7,500 miles and I wonder how long it will take for it to be needed again. Even with a catch can the carbonisation seems to be pretty extensive.

Wow thats some build up 😞 my old v6 omega wasn't even half as bad as this and that was on 188000 miles

Not heard so much of it now Toxic- the "special spray" so to speak
What sort of fuel you stick in yours Jamie- Supermarket or premium?

Quite a lot of comment generally round the web, that driving style , and fuel, add to the exisiting problem with GDI engines

Makes you think that Venting to air would be more beneficial since no more crap would get into the intake!
