  • Engine Temperature Fault (Thanks Citroen!)

Had my DS3 DSport+ 155THP since December and it's got about 4500 on the clock, no issues until today.

Got in the car this morning to set off to work, and 200m into the journey the engine temperature gauge went as high as it'd go and I got the below warning on the dash, great!

Got back home, rang Green Flag as I get them free with my bank. Young lad came out about 45mins later, said 'I think it's you're temperature sensor', as I'd already told him. He then went to get his diagnostics kit, and spent the next 15 minutes ripping various panels off the inside of my DS3 before saying 'I've never done a DS3 before, I dunno where the diagnostics kit plugs in... But your car is fucked, take it to the garage'.

After he'd left, I remembered something about Citroen Assist as I lease the car. Rang a number I found online, yep, no problem they said, we'll be there in 30mins. AA man turns up, equally as useless, 'errr take it to a garage when you can, but it's ok to drive because it's just a sensor'. Asked him if he'd personally drive it with the said problem, he said no. Already two hours late for work at this point with a knackered car and no way to get it fixed before Monday.

Then came the surprise. The nice AA man said he'll sort me out a hire car for a week as I lease with Citroen 'so it's there problem'. Didn't realise Citroen even provided a hire car in the event of yours being knackered!

All in all, within 45mins of the AA man arriving, I was on my way to pick up a hire car for a week and Citroen are coming to my house to pick up the car on Monday morning to try and sort it. Excellent customer service, IMO!

Nice one Citroen (now I just hope it's an easy fix)

Hopefully the Green Flag young lad is right- first stop temperature sensor- especially as youd only driven 200metres
    Good luck

It has to be the sensor as the engine was stone cold, at least I hope so!

With it being a 2 year lease car, and 4 months old, I assume the costs of all repairs will be soaked up by Citroen?

Temp sensor went on mine too. Replaced under warranty. The sensor is part of the housing so housing and sensor are done together.

Seems to be a fairly common fault as a number of people have posted with this failure.

Surprised you didn't phone Citroen Assistance first by using your e-Touch button!

Glad you got it all sorted though.

AA came to collect the car on Monday (as was organised by the chap on Saturday) but he said he wouldn't take it because it was still drivable. Asked him if he'd give me a lift back to the garage if I drove it there myself, which he eventually agreed to.

Car was at Citroen by 1000 Monday, told they'd fit it in at 0900 Tuesday for repair. At 1100 Monday I had a phone call saying they'd replaced the sensor and all was good, I could come pick it up :O

Sadly couldn't pick it up today due to work commitments but I had a hire car (1.6 Hyundai i30, oooo, feel the power...) so wasn't too fussed.

All in all very impressed with Citroen, hire car was given on the Saturday no questions asked and they fixed it within an hour!

How complicated is this to replace? Any spare part number? Might want to have one in trunk :P

So if you lease your car you're automatically covered under Citroen assist & don't need separate breakdown cover?

Same happened to me with my last DS....temp sensor problem...all the alert messages shouting at STOP IMMEDIATELY etc..!!!! Phoned garage, drove to garage (in a safe and cautious manner obviously ) left car to be fixed. No quibbles or issues with dealership.
