  • Hypothetical DS-R question

What sort of 2nd hand price would make fitting an uprated set of internals a financially viable option.

How much to replace those bits that are known to break with higher quality components, would picking up a great condition car for say £10k and replacing all pistons, rod etc plus dual OCCs and other uprated engine bits cost maybe another couple of grand?

Ask Ragnorak what he has spent so far, as he seems to have gone most the way, with con rods and pistons

Think replacing rods and pistons is around £2k fitted.

Is that replacing like for like or for higher quality components, using all the tricks we now know about (DOCC, WMI, 98RON etc) can the DS3-R be lived with?

As Chris said, Ragnarok is the guy to ask. Have a look at his build thread but I'm fairly sure he has used uprated parts.

you'd need uprated pistons. Wossner Forged or whoever else makes them.

Will replace my existing pistons and piston rods with forged, if I performance modify hard in couple years (Which would inc uprated turbo)
Reckon exisiting 155 set up is good for around 200BHP

Before that, it is Catch cans both sides, recirc valve, induction kit, then a bit later IC.

With the rods. pistons, new turbo and intercooler should be pushing 240bhp. Then obvs brake upgrade

All that about £8k i reckon.

              Probly dreamin LOL
Might just get a new car that does it already (Cough)

Honestly its going to be way cheaper to just buy a faster car in the first place!

Going back to the OP, if a Racing can be picked up at the right price then having the internals changed and a few mods like OCC etc would be a good buy, as long as the initial price was right.

Liam spent ~3k to rebuild before selling - this was just a THP though.

I forget what was replaced, but all from Aidan at PartsWorld and all OEM I believe. And all just replaced to get rid, not to get back on the road.

The Wossner pistons actually worked out cheaper but as I was selling the car on I figured it best to get it back to standard.

3K bought me new pistons, rods & oil pump (the previous one was infected with shards of broken piston) including labour.

This would be a Racing for a bargain (even with dodgy history) then replacing bad for way better and hey presto a Racing that doesn't die for less money than one that would.

The question is can I find a Racing with its body in perfect condition for the right price.
