  • Impressions after an ecu remap

I am starting this thread to hear your experiences after an ecu remap
I had an ecu remap on my thp car and also a few other mods (front mount intercooler-decat downpipe+ full exhaust with a big center silencer). I haven't done an ecu update after having my intercooler mounted but my impressions so far are:
The car feels slower /less torgue on low revs compared to stock.,,I miss the nice 'pulling' of the engine starting as low as 1500rpm.
After the remap my car feels slower at low rpm ,,then there is a feel of lag and then it sort of explodes above 3700rpm.
Also it feels loud and I don't like it...its not mad loud but it makes a sound similar to an oversized vacuum cleaner between 2000-3000rpm. I find it a bit tiring during journeys .. I don't know if this can be stopped if I have a high flow catalyst ?
and the big question most people would probably ask if they haven't done an ecu remap but thinking about it...Is it FAST? My car gave 195bhp on the dyno with ecu+ decat exhaust and after a month I had my front mount intercooler but didn't go back for an ecu update..The answer is YES...Very fast.. I am very surprised how fast it can go to 160 km/h ..you just put your foot down change 3rd-4th gear keep your foot down and you just passed 160km/h (100mph)
These are my personal experiences from my own thp ..For my personal taste I would have liked more low/mid revs torque than top end bhp. Some people may prefer the high end power/ top speed acceleration I think its a personal taste

I would assume it's down to the person / company that did your remap, if you wanted more mid range torque the right person could have solved that for you.

For me ECU remapping is as art these days, I fell in love with remapping the day I got mine done, and been fascinately reading and researching about it ever since...

I drove my Racing for about a year with Vector-Tunning Ultimate Chipbox, it was dynoed in Germany at 247bhp/358nm, and it was really fast! but you could sense there's something wrong with it, change of power curve often (sometimes it'd full from 2000rpm, sometimes from 4000rpm), and my intake valves weren't 'that bad'!

I was 'forced' to use the chipbox as there's no company in my country that does remaps, no one! But then as I was doing my engine rebuild and researching I found eTuners, Stelios is a great guy and he helped me with the rebuild and discussed about about my map, he made me 2 maps one with 98RON the other with 100RON. I've explained him my driving style and needes and I got the map from him after 2 days, flashed it, and was really really surprised! Car feels much faster and responsive than it did with chipbox and the overall drivability was better! Didn't do a dyno yes, as no there's no dynos here either

I am at a 'Stage 2+ (De-Cat)', and the real power is after 3500rpm, but when I'm driving fast i'm always higher than 3500rpm so I really like it, i don't feel any 'lag' when Im really revving the engine. I'm waiting for my WMI and will install the 100RON map

      Cheers

        Good to hear your thoughts.

My only point would be when you complain of noise- that's more likely to be the decat you mention making the engine noise travel through the exhaust more freely. Then I get confused as you talk about a high flow Cat? What changes have you made to your exhaust as that's where the noise change will come from?

I removed the mid resonator at one stage, and it was so loud, it had to be put back on again

I have a full 2.5inch exhaust -decat downpipe with a mid section resonator

The decat downpipe will make the exhaust noisy

A 200 cell psi Sports Catalytic converter would make the sound better, and performance almost as good

Update: my car last week was feeling slower in low/mid rpm and also the aluminium boost pipes started rattling again.so i went back to my tuner for an ecu update/adjustment to work with my new fm intercooler better.
The car was there all day..my tuner said that there is a lot of unjustified lag and a delay of around 1000rpm for the turbo to kick in. Also he is suspecting a pressure
Loss in the exhaust pipes or in the turbo boost pipes thats why i have this big
                lag.
He tried to have the stage 2 remap to see if there was any difference
but all it did was a very very small difference.also he told me he couldnt dyno test it because
My clutch was making the wheels to spin and there was a risk of
burning the clutch.(am not sure if he made it up as an excuse..my car was driven 230km after my 1st visit on road conditons driving only...so no chance my
                clutch was worn)
I am going for a smoke test this week to check for any pressure loses in the pipes.
I am wondering if all this never ending problems are common with ds3? Or its just my bad luck?

I guess it's just your bad luck. You're using parts which aren't OEM, and modding the car to outside of the manufacturer's deign, so you have to be prepared for that to fail sometimes.

Both places you have suspected pressure loss are parts you have replaced, so it could be bad manufacture, bad fitting, or both causing the problem.

You see a lot of faults with DS3s here, but that's because it's a forum specifically for people to discuss the DS3's high points and low points so you see a disproportionate amount of people asking for help compared to nationwide faults. That all said, I hope you can fix the issues and can get back to enjoying driving it again!
