  • Recommended Engine Mods

    Hideho all,

This is a question for all of the engine modders out there:

What recommended maods do you recommend I make to a THP155? New filter, PCV mod thing etc etc

I'm not trying to go mad on anything, just looking for quick and easy mods to do myself that aren't going to break the bank or involve needing a garage and a ramp to do.

Seen a few people mention new intake filter- what do you recommend- where from and how easy to change? Same goes on the PCV thing- who's done it themselves and how easy was it.

Back in the day I used to work on Marine Diesel engines- largest was 68,000SHP (weighed closed to 160tons)- but show me a turbo charged 1.6 and I'm lost though :-(

You've just bought or leased a new car, why jeopardise your warranty!!! Wait until it's out of warranty and then play until your hearts content
DS3 Racing, also available in White!!!

Simplest, put a panel air filter in, get the engine nice and broken in then have a remap done. You will think its a different engine under the bonnet.

Jimbob- lol. Bet he would love the turbo we used then, 1 charger per cylinder- 9 cylinders. You could walk about in them to do blade inspections. Believe it or not those things are only stroke engines with a top RPM of 88-96.

Cyclone- already at 6000- anybody suggest the right filters? What sort of price am I looking at for them? And who else has done that PCV thing?

I have a foam panel filter from mini cooper s. Pipercross or K&N are big names would expect 35-45 pound range.
Have done the rear PVC delete. If you decide to go that route would definitely recommend installing a catch can on the side port. Remember this is getting into visible mods that citroen may hold against you in a warranty situation.

Reckon it'll just be the filter for now then- anything anyone can think of? Already got a tuning box on it's way which I'll test out slowly and check it on dyno then probably a remap in a few months when I have the time.

Any suggestions are really helpful as I really don't know where to start on engine's like this.

Also, is there anyway of fitting the footrest thing without drilling? Not a fan of drilling holes in the floor of a car.

and my reasons for wanting a bit more juice? I passionately hate new mini's- adore the original but the new one is a travesty and an abomination of nature and I want my engine to be more powerful than cooper S then after a few months, more powerful than a JCW...I seriously can't stand the damn things. They turned a design classic that won so many rally's, a true British design icon into nothing more than a hairdresser's chav chariot- damn you BMW!!!!! shakes his fist

Do you realise that the current BMW MINI's are once again successful in WRC ? And as for producing more power than a JCW BMW MINI, you'll have a long way to go, a JCW with a few bolt ons and a remap is pushing close to 300hp

                    ^

Not so sure about that, they are currently ranked 7th with 26 points where Citroen are ranked 1st with 237 points......

^^^ Thank you for that, I wasn't referring to the position/points standing within the current season, I should have made my point more clearly, the fact that a return to WRC for MINI, albeit owned by BMW has had some WRC success, since it's rebirth.

Thanks for pointing that out before I did Biggie.

Czar- did I make reference to having more power than a modified JCW? Or did I mention having more power than a JCW meaning showroom spec?? I have been told by quite few people that's it's easily achievable with next to no work- so I'll go on what those people say rather than the one person, you, who says otherwise.

No matter what they do with the new Mini- IT IS NOT A MINI. They could win the WRC and it would still not be a Mini

No.I have been told by quite few people that's it's easily achievable with next to no work- so I'll go on what those people say rather than the one person, you, who says otherwise. I never said it couldn't be achieved, what I actually said was "And as for producing more power than a JCW BMW MINI, you'll have a long way to go" even in showroom spec they are rated at 211hp, and when dyno'd they regularly record over the rated showroom spec of 211hp.

I fully understand you have a hatred for the BMW MINI, and a passion for the original mini, however that aside, it "the BMW MINI" is a MINI when all said and done.
