  • Q about gearbox

im thinking of moding my DS3 thp ..

but will the gearbox take 180 or even 200 bhp ?

and any suggestions on any mods ?

  • #2
Should take it no problem, others here have mapped their cars to around 200bhp with no worries (yet :P). As far as I know the gearbox is the same in the DS3R and the Cooper S but with the Cooper S using shorter ratios than the DS3.

Mine's at 193 and the gearbox is totally fine- gear ratios are even better now I've got the added power actually.

            Hi Fooda
Does the heat in Saudi affect the running of the car?
And what about all that sand and the paintwork- You apply anything to the paintwork?

welllll .. im a university student so i dont have the money or time to apply anything to the paintwork .. and its not really affected by the sand or anything as you see in the pics i posted earlier

as for the heat it does make a difference when its hot .. nowadays it reaches around 50C (i know thats very very hot) so i get less power and more lag from the turbo .. we dont have dyno's to test it but i can definetely feel it .. but in the winter we get about 20C at night so u get more power and less lag from the turbo

Other than that it's running completely normal .. the temperature gauge never got over half

Spose you like a lot of night time driving too- cooler intake temp

AND COME ON- WHATS THE PRICE OF UNLEADED? TUPPENCE HAPENNY?

actaully it would reach 60c on really really hot days, but thats about one or two days a year :P

as for the price of petrol here .. well get ready to be shocked ...

its 0.10 pounds for 95 octane!
and 0.07 pounds for 91 octane!

i guess everyone wants to come to KSA now :P

They normally swap in an uprated AC for the mid East, that's why it takes a while for most European models to get over there- bigger AC, bigger draw on the engine and thus less power. Big problem being you can't drive during the day without the AC on.

A bigger intercooler will do you a HUGE favour out there especially with a remap with extra torque to help run the AC.

loving the updated Saudi fuel prices, even cheaper than Dubai lol

and with a small engine like this i sometimes pay about 10 pounds a month for fuel

wish i could afford an intercooler .. i think i'll just stick with a remap and intake mod .. thats good enough for me now

In that heat and humidity I'd say a better intercooler is almost 100% necessary or you won't get any gains out of the remap because your intake temperature will be too high. I would make it your first mod, not your last.

If it's anything like Dubai then there'll be lots of garages who can build one for you to specification. There's a post on here where someone in France or Holland I think had one custom built, also has rough plans. Either that or just order one from Forge- they should deliver
