  • Did somebody say 200BHP Club?

    Hi Guys,

So.. After an early start this morning I took a trip down to Jamie over at http://www.sptuning.co.uk/. Lovely bloke.

Started off the day with a quick brew and then the job of dropping out the cat began. Jamie had to remove the boost pipes, heat shields, a bunch of bolts and a few sensors before we could get to the main task at hand so we were up and down on the ramp a few times.

    Old cat

Heat shields removed, induction kit out and ready to remove the cat

    Out with the old

    In with the new

You can see the massive difference between the cat that Jamie provides and the standard one best in the picture above. At Low RPM (0-3000) you don't really pick up on it, all I can hear is the hum from my backbox but as soon as you go over this or 70mph you can really hear the gurgle and and grunt of the decat. I love it!

Cat in place, just needs the heatshields back in place

And finally, a quick video. I wouldn't recommend putting the volume up too high if you're listening through headphones. This run was just a quick one to ensure the car ran fine on the dyno, unfortunately you can't hear the car too well over the sound of the hovercraft propellor Jamie has running to keep the engine cool xD

Had to have a quick blast with the NOS also

Would I recommend doing this? Too fucking right! Give Jamie a call and get yourself one ordered.

Total fitting time should take you ~2/3hours including smoke/tea breaks if you're comfortable under the bonnet of a car.

Jamie's contact details for those interested: http://www.sptuning.co.uk/

Mid Silencer is still there and probably staying to prevent things becoming too obscene lol. We did talk about the flexi pipe though. There's a possibility that might be going.

Forge is still a possibility. Jamie gets a great discount with them. All depends on I'd I can find a decent fabricator near me

If you decide to dismiss the flexible bellows exhaust section, what measures are you going to implement to stop exhaust pipe fractures, from the rocking motion of the engine, during acceleration ?

Oh, I may have phrased that incorrectly. I won't be replacing the flexi with a straight pipe, it would just be something slightly larger

Good point - on my Astra Longlife ( LOL DON'T EVER USE A LONGLIFE GARAGE ) fitted a singular pipe coming out of the turbo and back without without fitting the original or any form of flexi-pipe, needless to say the pipe cracked the same day and the noise in the cabin was stupid lol

And they're meant to be exhaust specialists LUL

I remember chiefnerd saying he was running 0-60 in 6.2 seconds with just under 200bhp from a remap (how accurate that is, is anyone's guess). The listed times for the Racing are 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. The listed times for the Focus ST are 6.3 - 6.6 seconds.

The DS3 is a much lighter car than the ST (227kg lighter for the THP), so I would imagine a Racing or remapped THP would definitely give a standard ST a run for it's money. Easily keep up but don't think they'd smoke it without a lot more tuning.

I could be completely wrong, just going off the numbers.

Chief was full of shit though. I tried keeping up with a 2l st when I had my panel filter and remap and it left me for dead.

Id love another go now though

Haha yeah, I just hadn't seen anyone else's times to compare to.

Have you got any 0-60 times now you've got your exhaust done?

With the backbox, induction, remap, etc.. I ran it on Viezu's 1/4 mile dyno it ran 6.219 0-60. Not measured it there again yet with the decat and NOS though. I imagine it's much quicker though.

1/4 mile was 14.818 but again, this was on a dyno with no real track/road conditions.
