Pics lol I was going to grab some popcorn as I thought a all out argument was going to happen but then it dies out :-/ lol

So more clean air in to the engine just burns the fuel off quicker then?
Also if a air filter/ induct won't make any gains what's the cause in the different tone on the revs?

I've got the same engine (1.6 VTi 120) in my C4 and used to think about an induction set-up but if it's noise you're looking for then it's already got a nice sound. I'll have to dig out an engine bay picture as I believe the induction set-up is slightly different to that of the DS3 as the C4 has an air intake over the slam panel - quite good as it takes the air feed from the grill area. People have commented that it sounds like it's got an induction kit on it, however it's all standard.

Not sure if it could be adapted to be used on a DS3?

Unfortunately there's not too much out there for modifying this engine...

IMO rollers have to be taken with a pinch of salt, it's what they're like on the the road that counts...

I am with you on this robbo51. I think VERY LITTLE would be an accurate assessment.

All the DYNO facts you read about are a joke if you have run on as many different dyno's as I have over the years and know the variation you get from car to car run to run and then lets not even talk about the operator settings and adjustments.

In my view cold air induction kits are on a par with those electric superchargers. Anything you do to improve flow or cool the incoming air before the throttle body or turbo isn't going to do four fifths of FA.

        IMO they do very little.

Well no that's not quite the sort of electric super charger I was thinking of.

This is what I was thinking of http://www.electricsupercharger.com .

More FLOW and COLDER air is good....
HOTTER air is bad.......hence the bloomin' INTERCOOLER!!
So probably panel or cone IN an original airbox or with a cold feed in
is better (or at least no worse?)

The increase in noise doesn't necessarily mean any change in flow or
power. (More to do with vibration/suction/tube lengths etc)

The mkiv Supra guys did all this, many went cones-under-bonnet, then
built custom air'boxes' then most went cone-in-original-box.
Effectively like a GOOD cold induction kit i suppose?
There was a little sale of old airboxes for a while.....then a squabble to
              BUY them back/find them!!
As you've said its the TURBO which gains most from colder feed and increased flow.
(I can't comment on the diesel though.....not sure if they need/can use it?)

The manufacturer isn't likely to build a CRAPPY inlet system is he??
It's possible he's just compromised a little by cost/room/noise etc.

And YES, the Soop boys all verified their before and after runs before
coming up with the OBVIOUS answers.
(Never any massive gains or losses though- mostly just played
              different tunes )

PS doesn't mean i might not try a likkle noisy panel filter
eventually----just so pedestrians can hear me better you
              understand!?

you will see some gain in these, check this video out, it shows how restrictive standard paper filters are:

1,6 BHP increase with a K&N panel filter over standard
Not just a performance gain- better for the engine

Had a K&N filter in a car for 370K miles. Worth it just not having to pay for all the paper filters it would have taken.
