        You've got to remember it's not just the police who can stop you for it as well. As it's a reg offence the fines are issued by VOSA, and they often do road worthiness checks themselves. People think police make a big deal about them just so you can get caught by speed cameras and the like, but it really isn't. If your car gets stolen and it isn't displaying the reg correctly then it reduces the chance of you getting it back as it won't be able to be picked up by ANPR cameras.

          Be wary of locking dust caps they have been known to corrode and become frozen on the valve stem. Happened to someone here not very long ago.

            I have the DS ones, I don't lock them on because it's too much faff when doing my tyre pressure.

            But over the winter the road salt has welded one of them on to the stem.

            If I get metal again I'd only use for shows.
