  • grinding noise. been back to dealer.

This is my 2nd ds3, currently got a 62 plate d sport + when I brought the car a few months ago it had like a grinding / rubbing noise on the drivers side. They said this is normal if it has been sat for a while and that it's the brake discs layer of corrosion and that if I keep driving it then it will go away.
So I did that for about a month with no difference. I then went back to the dealers who stripped the front drivers side wheel and brake and said they thought something was rubbing on the back of the disc. Can't remember what it was so I took it away. Exactly the same so I run it a bit longer before today when I took it back. Today they had a look at the car. Exhaust bracket had corroded and broke. That was fixed under warranty. They said they think the grading is the back break discs as there corroded and pitted. After negotiation they recommended that they strip both back brakes take a layer off the discs so there smooth and reassembled. They said I have still got about 80% left on the pads n still a lot of life in the discs. Soon as I left the noise was still there and louder so I went straight back. They now think I might need new disc n pads on the back. There going to contact Citroen in the morning and see if they will do that for me under warranty as I kept going back so now waiting to hear. I think it's more the wheel it's self than the brakes.

Does any body else have this. Or had this. I have done about 6 thousand miles since I've had the car. About 300 a week average. Why are they corroding then?

If they dont sort it I'm thinking of terminating the finance some how and handing it back.

I've got similar on passenger side.

Only noticeable with Windows down and when not accelerating though. Not worrying me as yet.

Your right about the window down. My misses keeps putting the radio on to stop me listening to it. It's just so annoying after a bit. With the car being under warranty Ill just keep going back.

I have a funny vibrating grinding noise on the passenger side. Mentioned it to the dealer but they said they can't hear anything... Think I'm gonna have to let it get worse and mention it again haha.. It's really annoying when driving along!

It is mate. You drive a technician with them in the passenger seat with the passenger window down and drive somewhere where you can drive at the side of cars or a wall. Just keep on at them.

I had a grinding/squeaking noise on the rear passenger side when I first got the car. Thought it was the suspension at first, but a look under the car revealed it was a nut from the heat shield from the exhaust that was missing, so the shield was rubbing along the bolt.
Hmm, I just realised for you guys the exhaust must be on the driver side.. :-/

I have a slight grinding noise coming from the brakes, mine is due the 25k service soon so will see what they say then. According to the dealer when I called them it was v unlikely to be the brakes with that mileage though....

Why don't you jack the car up at the back and have a look to see of you can source the noise yourself?

I would be surprised if Citroen will pay for new brake discs to go onto the car as these items fall under wear and tear, but that said depending on the situation they sometimes agree to help. Remember the golden rule here, don't scream and shout, be polite and people will be more likely wanting to help you.

Another thing it could be is a small amount of surface rust on the brake discs. My previous DS3 used to have a slight grinding noise at low speeds (under 30mph) if it had been sat for a few days. A firm press of the brake from 20mph to a stop would usually clear it.

I've not noticed it on my new DS3 so it probably doesn't happen on all of them but it's easy to check and worth ruling out.
