WD40 was designed as a water dispersal spray, hence the prefix, and it took 40 tries to get the formula right formula. In composition its very close to fish oil :-)). Its also great as a penetrating fluid but doesnt offer any medium/long term lubricating properties where a maintenance/lubrication fluid works fine.

A locksmith friend of mine credits WD40 with the destruction of more locks than rust, people use it and it clears away sticky oil residue and small swarf then after about a week there is no lubrication at all and the mechanism just wears away. As bill said it is a water dispersant and is intended for use on electrical equipment, used to use it on damp days for distributors. Three in one is a great light oil, but for most applications where you need persistent lubrication a grease of some sort will normally be the best solution.

This has just happened to me, my roof has stuck in the open ( right down) position. I am wondering if this could be due to the extreme warm weather we are having here in the UK. I have just recently purchased the car second hand so am a bit unsure what to do! any help much appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your problem. If you bought the car from a dealer and the warranty is still valid (all dealers must by law give 3 months warranty) then take it back to them to fix. If you bought privately then you could check the fuses and try to wind back the roof manually (using an Allen key pushed into the roof motor housings), but you will probably have to take the car back to a Citroen dealer for ‘checking/diagnosis which will cost approximately £80 and they may be able to close it for you and get it working again. However this is often a temporary fix before it fails again :-((.

if the dealer can get it working i would recommend either cleaning and lubrucating the roof yourself (i can provide details of how to do this) or paying the Citroen dealer to do it. Davidds3 in ths forum has done a lot of research on this and has found one specialist in the UK who may be able fix your roof. A couple of us with Cabrios take out the Citroen extended warranty for about £300 per year so we can sleep at night without worrying about a £6,000 bill to replace the roof.

          Best of luck, Bill
