  • DS3 Inlet Polymer Problem, main dealer charging £900.

My car developed a fault, the EML came on, there was no power when the accelerator was pressed intermittently and the pedal "shook" (it could be nursed to Evans Halshaw and the dealership) and the engine was shuddering when stationary intermittently. I took it to Evans Halshaw where I bought it from 9 months ago and they sent it to Evans Halshaw Citroen who said that there is a build-up of polymer in the inlet duct and is going to cost £900 to get fixed.

I was just wondering whether anyone on here knew of the problem that they are claiming etc or if anyone can point me in the right direction as apparently the extended warranty that I bought for £400 doesn't cover it.

    Thanks.

Edit: Forgot to mention it is a 61 plate and it's a 1.6 turbo (D Sport+). Just relaying information from my sister so if you need any more details to help just let me know Thanks again. I am a competent home mechanic but only with old Japanese cars so you can talk to me like a car person too. Basically the car looks like it went into some sort of limp mode all of a sudden and now she's been slapped with a £900 bill as it's not covered by warranty (which seems ridiculous to me)

Polymer build up? Surely they mean carbon build up around the inlet.

That's what I'm guessing, just trying to figure out why it's going to cost £900 and if £900 is fair. And more importantly how the £400 extended warranty doesn't cover stuff like this when it's through no fault of the driver. Just looking for advice really or what's the best action to take.

seen a few instructions with images, simple to follow, all it is is just plastic and bolts etc, as long as you can handle a ratchet, use initiative and dont mind dirty hands its a good thing to day and feel good knowing how to do something

Pulling the head is not something one should tackle as an introduction to mechanics. There are plenty of things the person that is just discovering the joys of wrenching on there own car can easily and successfully accomplish. Keeping at those little jobs both saves money and develops the basic skills and understanding that lets one preform the bigger more intricate (if you make a mistake you have just ruined your engine) ones.

I'd think this could be the proverbial 'can of worms' for less mechanically minded owners, I helped my dad rebuild the engine on my first car and that was a basic 1.3 petrol engine. Even then there was all types of things my dad knew (as a mechanical engineer) that I would never have known in terms of refitting the head etc....
