have checked and renewed some bulbs today but still have no low level brake lights, i do have the boot light working so guessing its not the pedal switch, cant find any fuses for the brake lights either

Daft question, but if you had the light fittings out to change the bulbs, are they plugged in?
Behind the fitting there is a plug that connects the lights to the car. But to see this you would need to take the fitting out - with the long plastic screw that holds them in place.

Try yet another new set of bulbs? If they don't work either there must be some wiring issue if there's not a dedicated brake light fuse. Double check that the lights you put in are the right bulb.
I am of course assuming that you have the old rear lights like me. If you have the new 3D LED rear lights then the brake lights are LEDs that need replacing by a specialist.
