  • Help! 2012 thp engine issue

Hello just looking for any help or advise as currently having a problem with my car. The car is a 2012 50k on clock I've owned it from pretty much new. A couple of days back when going to the car it idled irractically and the engine management light appeared with repair needed prompted on the dash. The car was plugged into a live feed diagnostic which showed two injectors showing no value.
The fault codes were reset and the car worked perfectly fine for a couple of days without any hesitation and ran totally smooth. Tried to start it today and the same thing has happened.
Just wondering if anybody has any ideas or has had similar problems?
Thanks in advance and sorry if my description is a bit vague I'm no mechanic

THP with 50k? I would say that is almost certainly an unhealthy amount of carbon build-up on the valves.

Where the engine uses direct fuel injection, you get carbon buildup on the intake side. This is an inherent problem in all direct injection motors and restricts the flow of fuel and air into the engine. If a chunk of carbon breaks loose and enters a cylinder, then it could be catastrophic. The buildup usually gets to the point of reducing performance at 25k+ miles, so if yours has never been cleaned it'll be awful.

The one and only 100% effective cure: walnut blasting. Walnut shell granules are blown through the intake at high pressure to remove all the carbon deposits. As far as I'm aware, the best place to go is SPTuning, Jamie there is a DS3 specialist. Do a forum search for "Walnut Blasting" and you'll see a bunch of threads about it with before and after images.

The only other option is manual disassembly and hand-cleaning with a toothbrush or similar.

Also, once you do get it walnut blasted, you'll get the performance back like new. Where you've owned it a long time you probably haven't noticed the performance slowly tailing off, but it'll hit you after it's clean!

Your erratic idle is probably low fuel pressure. Your fault codes would have been for misfire detection.
If it is this it will happen again, more than likely 2-3 mins after start up from cold.
        Hope this helps.
Walnut blast.....you need this doing asap.
Your losing power and economy day by day.

I've had the poor fuel econmy issue. Around 300miles to a tank and that is driving as economical as possible.
Finally got the Money together to get the Intakes Walnut Blasted with Jamie at SP Tuning in a couple of weeks time.
Bit of a trek from Surrey but got to be done.
I bought my car with 38K on the clock, so maybe not fully Aware of how the engine should perform. Should be an eye opener for the drive home.

Judging by what other THP owners have said, after Jamie has finished with it, you are gonna be smiling ALOT all the way back to Surrey.

I hope that is not a dig at me being a Southener and to get back down South where I belong?

Made the trip to James quite a few times from Sussex coast. Its a pain, but trust in someone who knows what they are doing- its worth the drive

It was just a bit of of North vs South giggle.
                            No offence intended, apologies.

But back on Topic, can't wait to see what a a difference this will make. It might make we want to keep the car for another couple of years

No offence taken at all - You will really feel the difference once Jamie has worked his magic though
