I said it wrong, my bad! however the ECU activates or deactivate the pump, according to the signal received by the temp sensor.

I had 2 quotes for my temp sensor which is getting replaced later this month.

Local garage using all genuine Citroen parts - £337.23

      Citroen dealership garage - £459.58

I know which one I'm going with... parts are the same price but Citroen's labour cost is double my local's.

There are simpler ways, but thermostats on modern cars are an integral part of the emissions systems, so they perform several additional functions.

That's a lot of money to replace a simple sensor! Would I be correct in guessing that it includes a replacement thermostat to enable fitting of the alternative, less failure-prone sensor?

          Yep it is a lot

          Price includes:
          - modified outlet tank housing (£91 alone!)
          - new sensor, almost certainly a recent model where they worked out the flaws
          - custom wiring loom to fit the modified housing to the existing loom
          - new antifreeze as it gets bled to be able to switch the parts
          - bits and bobs like straps and gaskets
          - labour @ 2 - 2.5 hours

Well i put new sensor in this morning and it's worse now, how it could be worse is beyond my small brain so sod it citroen can have it back and get it sorted its booked in for friday and if they don't fix it it will stay there, i have too much work on putting my rebuilt engine back in my vw t4 camper van.

It's possible the wiring is at fault too, you have the right idea letting them keep it until you're convinced it's sorted.

Yes I agree, only bad thing is they don't give you a time slot for looking at car so I turn up at 09.30 and maybe sat all day waiting, not a very good booking system you would think they would be able to plan a workshop better than that.

Well i took car to citroen hull today, they plugged it in and no problems on that front so they looked up on their data system for any issues that have come up and any fixes associated with them and the problem seems to be something about de-clutching of the coolant fluid pump(my gues is thats the water pump) might be wrong on that it was a very dodgy description, anyway the fix is to disconnect somthing and put an insulator sleave on and tie wrap it up out of the way, is it just me or does that sound like a bodge up, anyway its back in monday for the operation and i will try to talk to the mechanic and get a clear idea whats getting done.

Never underestimate the power of zip ties for fixing things.

But jokes aside, hope they come across a working fix.

Disconnecting something and tying the wires out of the way would be a legit troubleshooting method but Not as a permanent fix to your problem.

It could be your water thermostat. Take it back to the garage you bought it from. Surely if you've only had it 3 weeks, it has a guarantee.

Well i have been at citroen garage all morning and spoke to the mechanic who was a top guy and he disconnected the electrical connector from the water pump so that it would not stop and start as it should under normal driving which would replicate the permanent non reversable repair they were going to perform which was to re program the ecu to make the water pump run constantly, it did not fix the problem, next stage is to leave car so they can delve into it but he did say that we may get to the point that they cannot find out the problem and therefore cannot fix it and because it is not showing any fault codes then citroen will probably get to the point of saying thre is nothing wrong and i have to live with it because its running fine, i cannot do with all the grief to be honest and after owning my citroen for 4 weeks am going to call it quits and trade it in and go back to german motors.
