  • Spare wheel cost and size?

Rats! I knew it was tempting fate not to have a spare wheel in the boot. My ex-demonstrator didn't come with one.

Now I seem to have picked up a slow puncture. Luckily I spotted it before the tyre deflated entirely & left me stranded, otherwise it would have been out with the canister of goo, and good-bye tyre...

Can anyone tell me how much a space-saver spare costs from Citroen as an accessory? (I know the price for specifying it from new instead of the canister of goo, but I'm assuming that it will cost more as an additional item, rather than as a replacement)

And can someone with a space saver please tell me the wheel & tyre size, so I can look out for one second-hand?

Finally, I can confirm that having a seriously under-inflated rear tyre doesn't seem to affect the ride and handling of the DS3 very much at all, although it's not an experiment I'd like to repeat...

    Cheers guys!

I didnt order a spare with my car either. Gonna call the service centre tomorrow and ask them if it's possible to get a spare saver, and how much the 17" tyres cost. I hear they can range from £170 and upwards for 17"

The going rate for 17" Potenzas seems to be between £105-125 on the internet, so it should be possible to get close to that locally. I use a tyre place in Lowestoft that is known for its competitive prices (in fact, it's probably the only thing worth recommending in Lowestoft...).

Apparently it's possible in principle to repair a punctured tyre that's had the gloop treatment, but some tyre shops refuse to repair them because it's so much hassle to clean the gloop out of them, and insist on fitting new a new tyre instead.

I'll be very interested to hear what price you are quoted for a space saver.

I will let you know tomorrow. I regret not paying the £50 to have it factory fitted. Might be a costly mistake.

I know what you mean. With hindsight I should have pressed to have one after-fitted to my demonstrator, but I can't complain cos I got a really good deal.

Don't forget that you'll need a jack and wheelbrace to go with the wheel & tyre...

I work for a Citroen dealer....and i have ordered a spare steel wheel for a DS3 and tyre because the customer wanted one in the end....If your Citroen dealer cant do that then its a lie! Once we got the tyre sorted..we took out that black foam thing that holds the tools out...put in the tyre, and ordered a yellow handle that also pins the tyre down to the body...Alot cheaper than getting a spare 17" wheel thats for dam sure..The jack and stuff were a bit on top as well but still worked out cheaper

I'm sure that a Citroen dealer will be happy to supply one - it's the cost that's the issue, which is why I'm trying to pick one up secondhand.

Can anyone confirm what size the Citroen space-saver spare is? I can't see anyone wanting a 17" spare because the well in the boot isn't deep enough to accommodate one, so the floor mat has to stand proud of the floor..

Hi Remus, did you ever get that quote for a skinny spare plus jack & wheel brace from your dealer?

It's a 15" wheel; tyre size is 125/80R15. (I assume they're all the same - that's what I've got with my DStyle with 16" wheels)

I've just realised that 125x15 tyres are what my old, much-loved 2CV used!

How about that? 30 years on, my second bright yellow Citroen (this time with 154 bhp, rather than the 29 bhp of the 2CV) still uses the same sized tyres!!

Tell you what though - I wouldn't fancy driving a DS3 on four 125x15 tyres, especially in the wet or on the twisty bits (but I bet it would be great in snow, just like the 2CV!)

Would that be exactly the same tyre spec for a DSport as I too would like to get a spacesaver now.

That's what I've gone for for my DSport. Can't see any reason why there should be any difference between DStyle & the other models (given that they're all the wrong size, if you see what I mean)

Would be interested to hear from you again when you get your spare wheel to see if it fits your DSport. How much the spacesaver, plus jack and wheelbrace will set you back (if you don't mind my asking)?
