At the end of the day you are welcome to continue driving your car, the recall is not compulsory.
For information I have checked with my insurance company which is Admiral. Even though I am fully comp, should I have a crash as a result of the defect which the car is being recalled for I will not be covered.

    From the policy
If an accident happens and the condition of the vehicle caused or contributed to the accident, no cover under the policy will be provided and instead, our liability will be restricted to meeting our obligations as required by the Road Traffic Act. In those circumstances, we reserve the right to recover from you or the driver or any party responsible for the condition of the vehicle, all sums paid (including all legal costs), whether in settlement or under a judgement, of any claim arising from the accident
I would not be surprised this forms part of most motor insurance policies.

Anyway, I think even more so now that it's perfectly reasonable for the expenses and costs of taking the car away to have the problem resolved be covered by Citroen. I simply cannot drive the car now as I am also risking being out of pocket big time should in the very unlikely event my car fails as a result of the recall problem.

          Cyclone - fair point ! :-)

but would probably involve long and protracted legal wranglings.. while I sit at home wishing I was out and about enjoying my motor.. and all the while I still would have to pay for the finance on it while stuff was sorted. Even if a remote chance of it happening.. it could still happen and would be a right pain to sort out... :-(

Well I am just taking mine to get it done.. no worries.. at the end of the day, its less stressful doing that than it is for some people that have had major problems, just find ourselves lucky.

Life is full of risk sometimes you just have to go for it and "get her done"
Might be putting more stress into this than its worth

the dealership have agreed to pick up the car and Citroen UK have footed the cost.

It's was actually more a point of principal than anything else plus I was fortunate to find out about the insurance problem..

to many people get fobbed off by poor customer service and lazy retailers who care diddly squat once they have your money.

Any good business should in events like these should work hard to keep customer confidence high and look to improve their company credibility.

In this case, the dealership dragged their feet, which imo was poor show. They should have said, there is a problem with your car, really sorry about this, we are coming to get it and sort it out and worked to reduce any inconvience to the customer.

                Why?

So I think, yes, that was good of them, they looked after me well, I will go back and buy another car from them in a few years time and spend another £18k+

Right now.. they lost a couple of points in me going back because of the lack lustre way of dealing with a problem

I'm glad you have your issue sorted now, but I think we may have to agree to disagree on this point.

Citroen don't have to recall the cars in the way that they do, many other marques wait until the vehicles are in their service bays before doing anything, but by being pro-active they attempt to instill customer confidence in admitting that there are improvements that can be made. But if every dealer had to arrange collection of customer cars, many who don't have recovery vehicles, the cost of it would prevent Citroen from even bothering to deal with issues and force the network to wait until something goes wrong and fix the cars on a per case basis. Which I think no owner would want to happen.

I understand that there are certain circumstances where special attention is needed and you were one of those cases, but don't hold this against your dealer in the way you hinted, they will have to deal with many more people than just yourself, all with the same issue and at the end of the day you got your wishes as they must have spoke with channels at Citroen. Many other dealers would have stood their ground.

Last in regards to the insurance clause, yes every insurance has this and it mainly aimed at modifications of the car but in the event of a failure of the car which can be traced back to a defect then the marque would be held accountable.

fair points Bigfeet, I think we have to agree to disagree.

Other makes e.g Mercedes and BMW both of which I have owned in the past have made it common policy to pick up and drop off at no additional cost when I have needed work done on the car, and this is when I have requested work (no doubt the costs are included in the horrendous prices you pay for work on such vehicles though)

Anyway, happy days, I still love my DS3, it looks the danglies, drives nicely and it's serving me well.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your DS3, interesting enough Citroen are working on such a scheme where they will arrange all sorts of things for you - we will have to wait and see if it bears fruit.

:-) ironically my DS3 has been the most expensive car I've purchased @ 18k.

Have not had the recall on the battery earth cable, was this for all DS3? Didi have a recall letter for the rear brake shoes as some have been found to be wearing quicker than others.

I have recently had a letter from Citroen UK recalling my DS with the code MNE for the Neg Earth lead replacement. My car is due a service so I phoned the dealer ( John Grose Ipswich) and gave them two weeks notice to book the car in and at the same time mentioned the recall so it could be done at the same time.
Naturally they knew nothing about the recall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I called Citroen UK who hopefully will speak to the dealership. Just maybe they will have the part on the day.
