DS3 Knocking noise when full lock is on

Hmmmmm interesting thread this because last week I did a full right lock to turn in the road and crawled round and there was a "dud dud" from the front left as if I had run over something. I thought nothing of it, then a few days ago I did a right full lock to turn onto my drive and had the same noise. Today/this evening I went out to the car and noticed the right hand plastic side strip hanging off!!! I have certainly not hit anything. I now suspect the full right lock noise was the tyre hitting the plastic strip and breaking the plastic clips. I shall investigate in the light tomorrow.
Do others think this is possible? I wonder if a poorly mounted strip has the ability to clip the tyre, after all it is quite a deep strip and this could be a design fault.
The car is only 6 weeks old and it was off the road for 3 weeks of that. So barely used and it's falling to pieces.

I had the knocking sound on mine too but it only did it for the first few weeks. I asked someone about it and they said its just cos its a new car its bedding in or something. The noise has now stopped and nothing fell off so I'm not too concerned anymore.Blue/Black DS3 120 VTI DStyle +:redface::eek: And loving it!

Mine did it when new then stopped. Took the suspension apart and inspected all the parts when putting on my coilovers and everything was fine. hasn't made the thunk since 1-2 weeks old.Originally posted by cyclone
It is in the handbook. Satisfied.

I'm kind of wondering if this noise is coming from the spring when it is being tensioned at full lock, my Picasso does this and the noise is nothing to really worry about as if it is what I think then the sound is the spring moving on the suspension cup....I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!

Could be the spring turning in its "cup" but it's not supposed to. There is a bearing at the top spring seat that lets the spring, upper and lower spring seats and lower strut all turn as an assembly. If the spring is turning then the upper bearing would have to be binding or frozen.
As it seems to be happening to cars when there new and then going away, it may be the spring bedding into the spring seats. They are not flat but have a recess for the end of the spring coil to sit in. If the spring end was not placed correctly into it during assembly maybe the noise is the spring rotating and finding its proper position?Last edited by cyclone; 03-01-2012, 13:04.Originally posted by cyclone

The sound is most likey the spring moving into position and should go away once it has seated correctly. On my Picasso the noise is because the previous owner had fitted cheaper new springs rather than OEM items which don't fit quite right....I should never have doubted the Lord of Bacon!!
