What tyres should i get? Suggestions please? Winter or all weather?

Hi, my 17 inch belones have done 14k miles and have decent tread left but i find they have poor grip in the wet and when it was a bit icy the tyres had zilch grip. I know they are going to be scary in the snow. My question is, should i buy a set of winter tyres? and if so which one have people bought. Or should i just change to another all weather set and if so again which ones have people switched to?
p.s Has anyone else noticed the tyres on the 17 inch belones are poor for grip in the wet?

Their performance in the wet deteriorates as they wear, and you're right to be worried about how they perform in the snow.

I've just bought a set of DSign steelies (with Michelins on at the moment) and I'm going to swap them over tomorrow. They won't be as good as winter tyres, but I suspect they'll be markedly better than the Potenzas.

I may have gone over the top a bit, but this week I purchased a new set of Alloys and Winter Tyres, I do a lot of miles in both UK & Europe and last winter I got stuck in Snow in Germany in my old Ford Kuga 4x4 "look a like".
The Car is a DSport 110, The Wheels now fitted are 16" Fox Racing FS004 in Black, shod with 195/55/16 Nankang Snow Viva Tyres.
£600 all in From Wheelbase in Oldham, the payback is that I should get another summer out of the 17" Rubber on the Belones.
Now all I need is some Snow.

I am boss eyed with reading all the previous posts on tyres and still cant decide? KNowing my luck i will spend £600 on winter tyres and it will be a mild winter lol

TBH most winter tyres have sold out, though im sure if you paid enough youd get some!

I'm just gonna man it out as I can cope with 240BHP car with continentals so a 90 Diesel should be a cake walk.

I'm a big believer in winter tires so that's what I would recommend. If your thinking getting a 2nd set of tires for the winter why would you get all season. If keeping them on all year round ok then. As to which tires do a internet search for winter tire tests and you will see the same group of tires will be at the top of most of them. Can't go wrong with any of those tires. Would even feel safe with a winter tire out of the middle rank if do not have harsh winters or don't do a lot of driving.

I have done an internet search for winter tyres, and the better ones are all about £700 to £800 for a set of 4. Cant afford that, wonder if a £400 set would do to get by. The reason I looked at all weather tyres is that i find the potenzas rubbish in the wet, my tyres have done 14k so just thought maybe swop them rather than have a second set cluttering house up.

Some good Japanese winter tyres out at £300 for 4 fitted although I am sure some purists will knock them..."Can't be any good at that price.."
Coming through Knutsford on Friday afternoon I was watching a Range Rover sliding down the hill but I was absolutely fine!
Get winter tyres on "steels" to save money. Mild winter? You might get 5 winters out of them!!!!

Another thing you could look at the top tires from 4-5 year old tests. They may not be top now but there still good tires and should be a little cheeper.

"Jinyu" - not the best but good value for money and they seem to be performing very well on my DS3.

Google finds 'em. Go for about £75 a tyre fitted.
