  • Info-Rapid (Ra'peeeed) for dash rattle

Well, finally got through to my local dealers servicing department and after a lengthy call on the phone and there 'system being slow', they managed to log in and found an "Info-Ra'peeed" (French remember!) and I have it booked for a look.

Although worryingly, she couldn't say much about the resolution, I know Herb has been saying there is a resolve using foam pads. I got the impression that they're basically gonna have to investigate as the ra'peeed only states to them where the issue is in a general area of the car.

It's got to a point now where the rattle is there permanently now, whereas before it was intermittent, so I'm 'hoping' it can be resolved and I'll post any news on it once it's done.

Rob, how many miles had you done before you first started hearing the rattle? I'm nearing the 900 mark and have yet to hear a peep yet..

FYI guys this Info Rapid is no. C5FW0107Q0. It involves re-seating the seal around the dashboard to kill the noise. Finger crossed you irishrob that it sorts it out for you.

My dealer seems to have stuffed in a couple of 3cm foam pads at the base of the windscreen - is this the recommended fix, Bigfeet, or does it involve taking out the dashboard to re-seat the seal?

I hope so to! As long as it's a hidden solution and not having little foam pads stuck here and there that you can see. Anyway, it's due in next Monday, so hoping for the best.

And Fish, I started noticing it almost immediately. I'm hitting near 6000 miles now and just today, when I got in the car with the wife, the rattle was there!

                      Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Heard the rattle today on the way back from Manchester!!! >.<

The car is getting remapped on wednesday so I might give the dealer a call this week and see if I can book it in considering I have the day off.

Anyone remember that old Golf ad where the guy couldn't work out where the squeak was coming from, and it turned out to be his wife's ear-rings?

That was in the days when VW were able to run an ad campaign around the slogan "If only everything in life were as reliable as a Volkswagen" without everyone collapsing in laughter.

They wouldn't dare nowadays. Instead they try & persuade us that £15k is an unbelievably low price for a poverty spec Golf.
