  • DS3 Dsport Cabrio 2014 running cold?

New to this forum and only just getting used to the layout \and posting process! Great to be here though and ask for some help/advice/guidance. My recently acquired 2014 DS3 DSport cabrio 155 is running permanently 'cold'. At least that';s what the temp gauge and heater is telling me? The temp gauge never moves to the 'normal' position and I get very little warmth from the heater. Apart from that, however, the car runs beautifully with no lumpiness from the engine, or any other problems. I bought the car privately last November and on the test drive am sure it was warm and cosy inside?
I have read some articles about DS3's over-heating, but little or nothing on the opposite? With the weather being so bad I haven't yet checked around the rad or hoses in the engine bay. My only thought currently is that the T/stat is faulty, but I understand this is a combined housing/sensor/Tstat arrangement. Any advice most welcome.

For a 2014 model you'll probably already have the new style housing, making it just a thermostat job. How's the short term fuel economy looking? If it is the thermostat reading cold, the ECU is probably dumping more fuel into the engine than it needs to.

More seriously, you could get overheating if the radiator fan isn't kicking in or the radiator isn't in use at all and just bypassing over the top. Definitely not something you want in a THP as cylinder number 3 can have some serious damage if it overheats. Definitely touch test the top and bottom rad hoses when the engine has warmed up (despite what the gauge says).

The heating matrix could be tied in to this, or it could be something else. Do the fans all still work as they should? And does the aircon work? Just trying to gather more information for someone else who could know the answer.

The same symptoms as my partner's 2013 120 VTi. A new thermostat housing and associated small wiring loom fixed it. £380 at the dealership so needs to be diagnosed correctly first

We did get them to waive the 'diagnostic fee' though

Welcome (from another Thp Cabrio owner). Dont want to scare you but the Cabrio roof can fail at about the 4 year old mark. Two of us in the forum have had this problem and the bad news is that they cant be repaired only replaced at a cost of £5,800. Luckily mine was done under the Citroen used car warranty. The roofs channels/cables are NOT cleaned/lubricated as part of the standard service and i reckon that this is a significant contributor to the failures due to increasing friction in the mechanisms. Citroen will clean/lubricate the roof if asked to an£ it takes approximately 30 minutes. If you fancy doing it yourself i have a copy of the Citroen bulletin kindly given to me by another forum member i can send you. Enjoy your motoring :-))
