    I can tell you from my many years in vehicle manufacturing that if we ran short of a part on the assembly line we would then pull back parts made for service (dealers) and KD (foreign assembly) just to keep the assembly lines running. This situation would not last long as production of the shortage part would be rapidly increased to supply all users.

    The shortage of the part would always be due to some problem further back in the manufacturing and supply chain. Not much help to someone who is waiting for a part, but it does explain why. The priority is to keep the expensive workforce fully employed.
